Probably a used column, is the way to go, this may not be a dyer job, lots of stuff in the way, air bags? If it has a vats key security system, you will need to have the key that comes with the used column modified as to the vats chips to match your old keys chip, GM delaerships can read your old key and make up a duplicate of the used column key and replace the chip.

The VATS key reader is in the steering column, so if you get the whole thing with keys, you should be able to use the key from the replacement unit.
It is not a job for the novice! :nono:

I replaced a steering column in an 86 cutlass once, it was pretty straightforward. A 93's with the airbag and other connectors will be a little bit harder. If the 93 column is like the cutlass' one, be careful to re-attach the cable used to indicate your current gear correctly. I had to adjust it a bit before it showed up right. Also make sure there is a good seal to the firewall, you dont want heat and road noise to come in.

I got my 91 pa transmission rebuilt and the gear indicator is out of alignment. Its not a big enough deal for me to go to the trouble to realign it though.

okay.. i went to a salvage yard and found a 92 pa. and took the collum, steering wheel, and linkage from it. before i tear into this project can some one tell me if i made a huge booboo by getting a 92 collum when my pa is a 93??????? the dealer ship says they can make me a new key for it if i give them the vin# for the pa that the collum came out of.. so im not terribly worried about the key and vats system. but are there other issues????:screwy:
