1998 cranks for a while before starting adrbar 09-07-2005, 05:54 PM
Hello all, I need help with my 98 blazer 4.3 tbi. i am having trouble starting it, hot or cold, warm or not, no real pattern. It seems to have to crank for several (sometimes 3 or more) seconds before it fires, it cranks strong and hard, just wont run right away. I have done the extended tuneup, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel, air filter and oil change. still no change, so i checked fuel pressure, it is a constant 60 pounds as soon as the key is turned to on, and stays there while cranking. any help or insight would be appreciated, as i have been told could be coil, fuel pressure regulator, or fuel pump, and i cant afford to throw money at it. thanks. 97BlazerDude 09-07-2005, 09:09 PM Maybe you have corrosion on your battery terminals. Or a loose connection. drdd 09-07-2005, 09:17 PM what's your battery voltage ? Any other weird driving problems? no, the light is not on, absolutely flawless once its running, smooth idle, plenty of power, great runner. i get it up to 90 at it is smooth as silk, plenty of power even when i tow my boat. only problem/symptom is the long cranking/starting. adrbar 09-08-2005, 11:46 AM no, the light is not on, absolutely flawless once its running, smooth idle, plenty of power, great runner. i get it up to 90 at it is smooth as silk, plenty of power even when i tow my boat. only problem/symptom is the long cranking/starting. battery is new, as well as alternator, both stay strong at crank as verified by an amp/draw test. BlazerLT 09-08-2005, 12:18 PM What plugs did you use? See if it will start immediately if you turn the key to the on position for two seconds before starting. See if the prime will help it. adrbar 09-08-2005, 12:21 PM ok, i will try that, but i believe we did tha at the dealership, it didnt help. i also have remote start, it turns "on" the car first, but it was doing this way before we put it in. the prime doesn't seem to help, to be honest i am leaning towards the coil. nice truck by the way saw your web page. What plugs do you use? This sounds more like a fuel of electrical problem. Take your battery out and put it on an automatic battery charger, charge it to the top, reinstall it back into the vehicle and see if it will help. adrbar 09-08-2005, 12:52 PM i use ac delco, and autolite, ( i changed them about two weeks ago.) i will charge it tonight. adrbar 09-12-2005, 06:46 PM ok more to add, bought new battery, new alternator, (alternator fried the battery when it died.) also changed the fuel pressure regulator, still no change in the starting. cranks 3-5 seconds before running still. getting harder as we go. adrbar 09-19-2005, 06:51 PM turned out to be the fuel pump.
