Remote Start Issues...

Just thought I would share this, a few weeks ago the Malibu (Redesigned model 2004 LS) started to active its remote engine start completely by it self. I discovered this after making a stop, took the car into the stealership that day to find out the keyless entry module had gone bad which according to the tech was causing the remote start to activate on its own ($498 since its out of warranty, 94500 Mi) used to garage the car and you could only imagine how fortunate we were that this did not happen in the middle of the night in the garage. I still feel a little hessitant to park in the garage.

It would have run for only 10 minutes. Sorry to hear you were already out of warranty on vehicle :(

What did they change/labor hours for $500?

I questioned the 94,000 miles in another thread, but here it is again, so it must be true. You've got perhaps the highest mileage '04 out there, certainly the highest one I've seen. I bet GM would like to pick your brain.

My feeling on the remote start, now having lived with it for 15 months is that it's useless to me without a window down button, so I could first let the heat escape. The Accord has one of those. Without it, I'm too afraid to burn out the A/C compressor prematurely.

An idea for the '08 (or '09, whichever the next Malibu ends up as), perhaps, even as an option to the Remote Start option. But this would also require a window up button too. Maybe a "Vent" button that lowers a window for a minute and then puts it back up?

I get to see the Hwy quite a bit! The thing was that it would run for the ten minutes then start again. Now imagine what would happen if we were asleep and didnt hear the car start which the way the house is I would have never heard it in the garage. So with the miles on the ticker warranty wasn't even mentioned. They replaced if I remember correctly the keyless entry module and labor which came out to $49x something. I am usually the first person the dealer sees with issues when I get cars so they make notes on the issue for other owners of the same car. So you are right they tend to ask me questions, sometimes I feel like a guniea pig!

Thx - Did this just start doing this when out of warranty?

I would think that after the 2nd 10 minute cylcle it wouldn't have happened a 3rd time but at this point I understand how annoying it would have been.

Well it did it about two weeks ago and I have had the car for almost two years and a ton of miles later. The only time I got to use the warranty was to replace the electric power steering.

But you had a recall on that (power steering), didn't you?

Not that I remember. It kept going out on the hwy so finally had the whole assembly replaced by the stealership while under warranty.

I agree... I have an 04 malibu I drive it everyday, when I am not driving it, my wife is.... I only have 52,000 miles on it. Pretty sad though,, at this rate it will be wore out at 4 years old.
