Good morning everyone, im new to the boards and was wondering if anyone could give me a brief detailed way on how to do the oil change on a chverolet malibu 97. Where do i drain it from...and etc. I have an idea but want to make sure im doing it right.

1) remove the drain plug under the engine and drain the oil
2) Reinstall plug. Bolt only needs to be snug.
3) Remove filter...may need a wrench
4) Compare old filter to new filter to make sure they are the same. Look at the O-ring location and make sure the old one still has it on.
5) Fill the new filter 3/4 of the way with new oil. Add a film of oil to the filter gasket. Screw back on vehicle hand tight only. Do not use wrench.
6) Read step 5 again.....it's important.
7) Fill engine with oil. Do not overfill.
8) Start engine check for leaks and ensure oil light goes out.
9) Shut engine off and check oil level. Top off if needed.
10) Do an overall check of levels, belt, hoses etc.

I am glad you are new to the board. I am glad you are trying to learn. Personally, with all of my auto experience going to Walmart remains the best bargain. For $13 I can get a change. Lets see, oil at $1.89 times 5 ($9.45) and filter ($4.00) - yep, still the best bargain!
