ABS,Battery Light Stays On-Car Dies!Anarhcy1505 09-01-2005, 02:05 AM I have a CUTLASS SUPREME SL 1997 While I was driving one day my ABS light came on. Didn't think much of it, thought maybe it was a sensor going bad. Continued driving down the road, turned on my turn signal to make a left turn and all it did was stayed on, a solid light not blinking at all turned my right blinker on, same thing. Then my battery light came on, so I quickly went to a place to park my car in fear of it dying on the side off the road. Went to start it back up and nothing dead. So I figured it was the battery. Checked it and it was not reading 12v, so I went and bought a new battery put it in and sure enough it started up with no problems the ABS and the Battery Light did not come on and my turnsignals worked fine drove it away and every thing was ok. Until, Later that day driving down the Highway the ABS and Battery Light came back on. And then once again my turn signals didn't work. Got off at the soonest exit and then my car died. The next day my friend and I took his car to haul my car back to my place but decided not to do that and instead jumped it let his car charge my battery. I then tried to start my car and it started fine with the abs light on though continued to drive my car home turn signals once again failed and battery light came on. Got it home though. After I turned the car off, I tried to start it back up and it would not start. So I figured it must be my alternator going bad so I bought a new one, put it in and sure enough the problem was solved, So I Thought. Drove it around for a couple of days and just tonight it did the same thing all over and then died and my car sits in a parking lot. I have no idea what the problem might be maybe the ECU is bad. IF ANY ONE HAS ANY IDEAS ON WHAT MIGHT BE MY PROBLEM LET ME KNOW. THANKS Manny_boy 09-01-2005, 11:09 PM Have the new alternator checked. I assume it has a warrantee (at least 90 days). Sometimes they are defective. I notice that you bought a new battery, but that it ran out of juice. When you bought the new alternator, did you have your batttery recharged at the same time? Alternators are not equipped to recharge a fully discharged battery, and doing so could actually kill an alternator. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
