i have a 1995 f-150 with duel tanks.the pump in reserve tank has never worked,all of a sudden the primary pump has quit.i am going to check to see if power is getting to pump.i was wondering if it comes to replacing the pump,how tough is the job?i have always been fairly handy and done all my own repairs(unless i just didn't feel like fooling with it).i was just curious about what i was getting into before starting.

Well I can't speak specifically for the F150, but I just recently did my 89 Buick LeSabre's fuel pump.

The job is basically the same. You need to take the tank off.

my problems

1. Strap Bolts were very rusted, so rusted in fact I needed to cut the straps and then cut the bolts.

2. Fuel lines need to be disconnected and they were in very bad shape. I broke both of them because the fittings were rusted badly and therefore I twisted the fuel line trying to get them off.

3. I needed to put a splice on the fuel lines


Anyway your truck is newer and you might have different fittings and clips than a Buick has so you might not have any trouble at all.

By the way I also live in Canada and my bolts will rust quicker than if I lived in California. (not sure where in the country you live in).

I have had other cars that were very old and no problems at all. It all depends on the underside of your car and the condition it is in.

Remove The Tank On Ford You Ave To Have
The Fuel Line Quick Disconnect Tool Tap The
Ring Off With A Hammer And Screw Driver
Replaced The Pump I Would Completly Drain The Tank To Make Installation Easier. Don't Forget To Replace The Fuel Filter Or You'll Might Get To Replaced The Pump Again If You Do It In Your Driveway And Have A Jack And The Tools A Non Experinced Person Could Do It In Half A Day

Thanks for the post. I am going to be doing this on both tanks of my 92 F150 in the next month or so. When I bought it, the guy put a pump in the front take but didn't hook up the sending unit, and the pump in the rear tank is bad but has a good sender. Imagine that....
