ford escortbradon 08-31-2005, 12:29 PM will a ford escort run with out a timeing belt or if it has brokeing and i need to put a new one on will it run now with out know problem? dayer86 08-31-2005, 03:09 PM No your escort will not run without a timing belt. It depends on how and when the timing belt broke to know if there will be any problems. I am not sure, (hopefully someone with more experience with Fords can confirm) but if you were driving when it broke you may very well have bent a valve. This is costly repair. bradon 08-31-2005, 03:16 PM thinks for your help chevyn0va1 08-31-2005, 04:11 PM thinks for your help Depends on what motor not all will have a bent valve. The 1.9 is non. (SOHC) dayer86 09-05-2005, 12:03 AM Thank you. dorfboy 09-05-2005, 07:19 AM I may be a little late, but it is true that a valve could bend with a broken timing belt, but that is a rare occurance. My ex had a 94 Ford escort sedan that broke a timing belt and I think it bent the valve because it ran like shit afterwards. I was about 3 teeth off from TDC (Top Dead Center) and it ran rough. They took it to the shop to be fixed along with some other things and the car ran the same. I think they did nothing at all to it. My 93 Wagon had a timing belt break 3 times on it and I placed the came and crank in time with each other..... IMPORTANT Make sure you match up the cam and crankshaft with one another before you put the belt on. Other than that my car still purrs ......oh and do not tighten the tensioner too much vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
