Oil Pan Gasket Change.. Steps?MexRocket 08-30-2005, 06:14 PM im figuring i really need to do the oil pan gasket thing, im trying to see what would be better, let a mech.shop do it, or learn how to do it now, see if i can do it sometime in december.... what would the price be to get it done if anyone knows? im trying to think of other things i should do, My valve cover gasket needs to be changed, i noticed there is oil right on my exhaust would that be from the pan leaking? im trying to get the leaks under control, then get some driveshafts to elimnate the greese problems lol, where would be a good place to buy new driveshafts for an AWD 1g, Is there a way, after all this is done, that i could possibly steam clean the engine bay? or is that impossible. Thanks for taking the time to read and help tfoti 08-30-2005, 08:33 PM http://dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=192222&highlight=oil+pan+gasket Thats for your oil pan. Remember to use Ultra Grey RTV. You might run into the risk of it still leaking if you use a paper gasket like I did. You also need to take off the t-case, exhaust, and the driver side axle if your motor is still in the car. Let it sit for a day before adding oil. Thor06 08-30-2005, 09:47 PM Haha, fuckin oil pan gasket. I did that on my friends 91 tsi AWD. It was a bitch. We hadnt familiarized ourselves with what was down there before we went at it so it took us a while. Many sraped knuckles, cuss words, and head aches came from that damn thing. Its definately a good idea to take the axle, but you do not have too. We didnt and we got that damn hidden bolt off and back on again! It takes a good amount of time and patience, but we got it. The bolt is right between the inner cv joint housing. If you turn the axle so the bump on the cv joint housing is parallel with the bottom of the block, you can take off and put the bolt without taking the axle off! MexRocket 08-30-2005, 09:49 PM holy cow that is alot to remove, how much you think that would be if it was done at a shop? It is way to fucking complicated for just a gasket lol, so does the use RTV or the gasket? i mean it needs to be done, i just dont have that much expereince with shit like this, and this is a big project it sounds like, and if i start something like this it needs to be done in a weekend... thanks for the imput now about drive shafts. ez1286 08-30-2005, 10:19 PM We could do it when we do your driveshafts, it's a pretty cheap job to do yourself, all you need is the rtv, i still have som gear oil for the t-case, we could do it in a weekend especially cause i did it twice on my car (lol damn cork gasket) MexRocket 08-30-2005, 10:28 PM Do you wanna do it when i get the drive shafts then? i think im gonna call crapa to order them... or something, i need this car almost done by winter so... ez1286 08-30-2005, 10:30 PM Yeah i'll help, if you are getting and exhaust soon we could wait for that too but we don't have to wait for exhaust, but we should wait for the shafts. MexRocket 08-30-2005, 10:31 PM well im buying the shafts this week, prolly tommorow or friday the latest, hopefully those heatshields will be in by then 2. i think im going to have to wait on the exhaust till i buy the parts and you weld it. ez1286 08-30-2005, 10:36 PM Alright i'm not home this weekend so it'll have to wait til next weekend. MexRocket 08-30-2005, 10:44 PM fuck i got court that friday next week lol, hopefully i get supervision... what about that gauge pod you orderd is it coming soon 2? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
