91 TSI AWD Right Rear Caliper... Help me PLEASEThor06 08-28-2005, 10:25 PM Ok, so heres my problem. My friends 91 Talon TSI AWD needs a new right rear caliper. So we bought the new caliper and go to put it on and guess what? It didnt come of the bracket dealy. We have a new caliper (part circled in green, but we need the part circled in red to attach the new caliper to the car. The part circled in green and the part circled in red should just pull apart in the direction of the arrows right? Theres nothing holding the part circled in green and the part circled in red right? When we first got the caliper off the car, the part circled in red and part circled in green barely swivled. After some heat and a half of a can or part cleaner and WD40, the parts swivle (sp?) really freely, but just dont come apart. Someone please help us, we cant figure it out and the hanynes manual isnt much help. Thanks in advance! Heres that picture I was talking about: http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/296232caliper.jpg tfoti 08-29-2005, 12:15 AM I beleive this is the same situation I was in about a month ago. I replaced the same caliper. Ok, there SHOULD be a bolt in the part that is hinging. I remember I had to stick a flathead screwdriver in the opposite end where it is hinging on to keep the bolt from turning. So you would be putting it right on the bolt head. Then simply turn by hand the bracket while keeping that bolt from moving. Let me know how it goes. Thor06 08-29-2005, 11:51 AM Is this the bolt you were talking about? http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/296232caliper_2.jpg I put a screwdriver in there and tried twisting the bracket and all it did was fuck up the egde. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/296232caliper_3.jpg Eventually I put in a bigger screwdriver and use two smaller ones, the edge on the caliper just keeps getting gnarled. Also, the bolt head itself is good and fucked up from my friends dad. Does that bolt hold the caliper to the bracket? How else can I get the damn thing off? Do they sell that bolt? I am thinking the next step is to drill the fuckin hex head off so the caliper can come off the bracket, use a vise grips to get the old bolt out of the bracket, and buy a new bolt. I've already hit up all the junk yards within like 50 miles and none of them have a caliper or bracket. Please help us guys, we need this car going soon. Thanks again. gsxeclipse97 08-29-2005, 01:24 PM if you are having a problem getting it out. i was in the same postion but i had a bolt broken in a turbo. I just took it up to meinkie and they got it out by welding something to it and then using that to unscrew out of the hole. tfoti 08-29-2005, 02:05 PM Yeah thats the bolt alright. Not sure what to tell you as you can see that a socket won't fit, at least none of mine did. I am positive now that I used a flat screwdriver. Maybe you should take it to a repair shop of some sort. Hell, even auto zone has a work bench (although some employees are dumb as rocks). But if you feel the need to destroy it, then thats up to you. But remember that if you bought the new caliper from auto zone or advanced or pretty much any parts store they charge you a core charge. I'm not sure if you planned on taking that one in for the exchange but if it's destroyed i'm not sure what they will say... 91gsx 08-29-2005, 02:25 PM The caliper and that bracket do come apart, but it is not a bolt that holds it on, it is the slider for the caliper to move on and thats why it locked up in the first place, as you oiled it and it started to move this is what needs to happen for it to loosen up and slide off of this bolt or slider, if it does not come off then what you can do is go to the part store, take the caliper that you bought and tell them you want a loaded caliper, if they know there parts they will know want to order for you, and by the way its the only way I will buy them, for when you buy one which is loaded it will come with the caliper, bracket, and the pads altogether and then you will see that it does come apart. Thor06 08-29-2005, 04:12 PM Thanks guys. I took it to a repair shop and he told me I was boned and had to get a loaded caliper. So I went to Advanced Auto to get one and guess what? They dont make them anymore! Isnt that sweet. Does anyone here have a working right rear caliper laying around WITH that god damn bracket? I guess now its salvage yards (around the state, I've checked everywhere within an hour drive) and eBay.... Again thanks to all who helped me. ez1286 08-29-2005, 04:45 PM Have you tried going to the dealer? Might be a bit expensive but i'd say get a new one rather than one off a car thats been sitting in a junk yard for god knows how long. 1g90gsx 08-29-2005, 05:53 PM i still have my 90 tsi and not much left of my 90 gsx and i have all the brakes on the tsi,let me know. i have sold a few things on here and have a good ebay feedback also. Thor06 08-29-2005, 06:13 PM Yep, tried dealer. No more being made and none laying around there or anywhere in his computer network thing. You have a right rear caliper I can buy??? How much? That would be excellent. I would like to do it through eBay if you dont mind. Are they both parts cars? Whats taken off of them? We might want to buy some other parts just for the sake of having them around. If you are close to me (northern minnesota) we might want to just buy a whole damn parts car. Thanks man I REALLY appreciate it. PM me. 1g90gsx 08-29-2005, 07:02 PM heres a pic from a over a year ago,the car still looks pretty much the same.im in va and if i ebay it it will be more but ill send it to you for $45.00 shipped.im having the salvage yard come get it pretty soon because its at my brothers house about a little over an hour from me. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v642/courtlyn/f972de76.jpg THERES NO, HOOD FRONT BUMPER MOTOR TRANS ECU FUEL SENDING UNIT REAR SEATS AXLES THERE IS, CARPET REAR BUMPER,LIGHTS PERFECT! I wont get my check card until Monday, so I can get a PayPal account then. If you could just hold it for us until next week, list it on eBay at a certain time when we can Buy It now right away after its listed, then we will paypal it so you get your money right away rather that waiting for a money order to work its way through the mail. Thanks again man. It has that bracket right??? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
