Love the car, worried about gas! Dyno247365 08-26-2005, 10:36 AM
Up till now I've driven FWD and RWD, both foreign and both with 4 cylinders. But ever since I saw and heard the Iroc-Z models, I've wanted one. Yes I could afford plenty of better passenger cars but the Camaro's grabbed my interest more than anything. Don't Ask why, why else would I be here? So I'm asking the dreaded taboo question of how the 305's and 350's are for those of you who drive one. This is one of the first things I heard out of a guy selling an RS with a modified tbi "If you're worrying about gas, why are you calling?". Because I really want a Camaro!!! So, how bad is the mileage? And for the hell of it,Would you go on a road trip with one? cooltc2004 08-26-2005, 10:40 AM well 4th gen camaros are better on gas than 3rd gen, because of the technology. I know my dads vette (LT1 motor, thats why im mentioning it) gets 22 MPG. My 92 firebird gets 18 mpg on a good day. Nate355RS 08-26-2005, 10:45 AM 27 is my highest on the highway, and around 20-22 around town is usual, probalby more if i didn't have a lead foot. i've got a 305 tbi with headers, 3in exaust so that helps out too. before the exaust i was getting around 17-20 around town and about 24 on the highway. it's not that bad drvngstorm05 08-26-2005, 10:50 AM my 305tbi that i used to have in the car would get 16mpg in town... never noted what i got on the highway... but i have an EXTREMELY heavy foot... Dyno247365 08-26-2005, 11:33 AM Looks like it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I thank everyone that gave me a better perspective. And it's good to know that exhaust helps mileage! goldz28 08-26-2005, 11:37 AM I had a 91 rs with a 305 and got about 20 mpg. Then I got a 90 iroc with a 350 and it was about the same. I took mine on a trip from Oregon to southern California. I loved it. You melt in the seat and just go for it. Lousiffer 08-26-2005, 11:44 AM okay, i have a 92 RS and it gets the same as the vette mentioned earlier, 22-25 mpg on a good day. but then again i put in a chip to help with that. dont remember the name cause i put it in 3 yrs ago... and second... is Viper Storm really banned??? Nate355RS 08-26-2005, 11:45 AM Looks like it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I thank everyone that gave me a better perspective. And it's good to know that exhaust helps mileage! exaust helps as long as you can resist the urge to floor it everywhere cause it sounds so much better . a less restrictive intake underdrive pullies, and a tune up will all help gas milage. oh yea and chip work helps but that kinda sorta goes with the tune up Earlsfat 08-26-2005, 12:58 PM *whimper* I usually get about 8 mpg.... but it hasn't moved in months - needs trans rebuild. Not sure whether to upset about the gas mileage or not being able to drive it. 92zcamaroperson 08-26-2005, 01:04 PM I have a 92 z and i get about 16 or 17. I was expecting a little more when i got it but hey....im cool... Rally Sport 08-26-2005, 01:34 PM My 92 RS got 25 or so, and I had a heavy foot so dont know. :dunno: SG007 08-26-2005, 01:47 PM Yeah I get about 24 with my 92 ... unless I wanna have fun, then it's more like 10. Savage Messiah 08-26-2005, 02:30 PM my 97 v6 with a very heavy foot, need of a tune up , and when on highway 85+ MPH averages 20-22... if I took it easy I could prolly get close to 30 highway Viper_Storm 08-26-2005, 04:02 PM nah, im not banned, just a couple of jackasses thinking they are funny. CamaroRS92 08-26-2005, 05:10 PM Honestly, I've never checked the mileage on any of the camaros I've owned. I figure if you want to drive it ya gotta feed it & knowing a mileage number wont change how much . Mine is probably a lot less than it outta be but i always have my foot in it pretty good and have a lot of fun doing it! Nate355RS 08-26-2005, 05:15 PM i set the trip every time i fill up, my fuel guage tends to stick sometimes so i don't trust it. CamaroRS92 08-26-2005, 05:28 PM I guess my fuel guage is fairly accurate or at least it hasn't put me unexpectedly to walking to a gas station with a milk jug (yet) *knock on wood* Viper_Storm 08-26-2005, 05:29 PM lol philly rs 08-26-2005, 07:02 PM well i know atlanta is like 520 miles from tampa, and i made it there almost on 1 tank of gas, thats damn good if u ask me chevelleman 08-27-2005, 07:51 PM I've got a 94 Z with the LT1 and a M6 and on the highway cruising at 80+ i usually get around 25-27 mpg of course with the 6 speed im only sitting at 2000 rpm at 80 so that helps daman 08-28-2005, 10:49 AM Yes I could afford plenty of better passenger cars? Hey, there IS no better!!! LOL :lol2: MPe488 08-28-2005, 07:13 PM unless your heart is set on the IROC-Z I would highly recommend an LS1 4th gen, more power, less gas, but expect to pay for it in insurance (ESPECIALLY if you're under 25) 88camaroproject 08-29-2005, 01:09 AM burn rubber, burn gas, have fun (and pick up chicks) drvngstorm05 08-29-2005, 04:05 AM Hey, there IS no better!!! LOL :lol2: AMEN Link85x 08-29-2005, 04:25 PM Damn viper, for a minute i was thinking the samething, good thing you ain't banned. 88, burnouts and heavy foots is where it's at, my car barely gets above half a tank, it's very sad, but i fun. stepho 08-30-2005, 12:24 AM my dad's 2004 corvette gets better gas mileage than I got when I drove a 95 Nissan Sentra 4cyl. Plus it has a little gauge so you can tell how much your getting. I got it up to 44 mpg!!! I was going around 10 mph... Indycarlover 08-30-2005, 10:48 AM I always got around 15 or so city in my Trans Am's... More Hiway of course, but with gas so freakin expensive, it is something to consider... Rally Sport 08-30-2005, 01:39 PM Well new Camaros get way better gas mileage than the older ones.. 88camaroproject 08-30-2005, 04:42 PM yeah i have a freeaking 2.8 and get like 18 Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
