Buying a 2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ

I will be buying a 2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ in the next while. Buddy just bought a Acura MDX and man those are sweet. My XJ has a stock hitch so my best bet is it came stock with a D44, I will have to take a look. It is an old rental unit from Hertz. But its smooth and clean. I know what you are thinking, "its a rental". Thats what I thought as well, because every time I rented a car or truck man did I abuse it HARD!!!!!! I rented a Mustang once from hertz and I returned it with brakes grinding bad and alot of tire worn off. Damn thing was an automatic. Anyway, back to my XJ HEEP

Are there any known issues for a 2000 XJ

It is a 4.0L engine with automatic transmission, do any of you know why type of transmission they put in, and what type of transfer case.

What is the best type of lift to do to these things. Spacers for the coil? wouldnt this ruin my springs over time? Is it hard to put in a body lift on these XJ's. What kind of lift do I have to do to put in 33" tires or 35" Blocks is somethings I read, but I dont know what they mean, is it putting a block under the spring to give it more height?

My general idea while doing my original research was to do a coil lift with a body lift. These lift kits seem to be cheaper then my old YJ. Is a long arm conversion worthwhile, they seem to be expensive. I know there has got to be some function to a long arm conversion. Probably my best guess is more durable. But how is long arm different then just lifting you rig with blocks, spacers, longer coils(front) / leafs(rear). I know there is way more work involved, but functionally speaking.

What is the best brand of lift kit to get?

What are some other good mods to do?

You have a lot of questions, but the transmission is an AW4 (Aisan Warner) which is a very good transmission. Known problem are disscussed in detail in this forum. They start getting more common and harder to fix after 100,000 miles. Like electrical and AC problems.

How much lift are you looking for here? Are you on a budget?

The cherokee is a unibody vehicle, so body lifts are impossible.

Long arm lifts typically come with all the parts necessary to provide a lot of lift, while still maintaining the proper suspension geometry to allow it to ride and drive properly.

In my opinion, the Old Man Emu suspension system is the best one available. Unfortunately, you won't get 35" tires on with this lift. It is meant to provide what they say is the maximum amount of lift you can get while still keeping the stock suspension components.
