Chevy Van brake problem; it's trying to KILL ME!

Hi!
Last week in the rain my '92 Chevy 3/4 ton van wouldn't stop, on wet pavement when I hit the brakes only one wheel locked-up pulling it sideways and I dang near took-out 2 BMW's. I took it to a shop and they completely rebuilt the rear brakes, over $500 dollars!!!
NOW it's raining again, and the same thing, except I was able to look out the window and see it's the left front tire locking!
The brake warning light has been flashing 6 short, 1 long for over a year now constantly, and no-one seems to know why, even the mechanic who charged me over 500 didn't seem to care about that....
Help before this thing kills me!!! Steve W.

A number of things could be causing your brakes to lock up.
I can't remember if 92 was a 3 channel system or rear ABS only.
A code 61 is a pump motor fault if I remember correctly.this means your ABS will not activate.
As far as only 1 wheel locking up, I would check the other side for a frozen piston or caliper..also check the rubber hoses for kinks or restrictions.

'92 is rear-wheel ABS only. It gets its signal from the DRAC module. I seem to remember somebody having a problem with the ABS on their van in this forum, and replacing the pump or control module or something fixed it. Check that post to see if it is any help. If the van is empty in the back the rears shouldn't be able to provide much braking help. Check the front brake pads to see if they are wearing evenly. Find a better shop to get your work done in (I don't care for mechanics that don't want to fix cars - they just "do repairs" and charge you for it). The two things that you absolutely *have* to have working in a car are steering and brakes.

This van doesn't appear to have ABS. I pulled both front wheels off today, and the rotors are good, the pads seem to be wearing evenly, and I pried open the calipers and they seem OK....

I dis-connected the battery the other day to reset the computer, and since the brake light has quit flashing (6 short, 1 long) and just stays on all the time now.

I'm gonna try bleeding the right side caliper tomorrow at work where I have a "pumper" (since it's the left side locking-up) 'cause I don't know what else to try at this point, I gotta pull a 16 foot trailer tomorrow to work, and hope to God it don't rain!

If the ABS module detects a fault it will light up the brake light. Things that make the brake light illuminate:
1. Starting the motor.
2. Parking brake on.
3. Low Flow or Low Pressure switch on brake lines (a real fault!).
4. ABS module fault.

If you were getting the brake warning light flashing codes, it looks like you probably have rear wheel ABS (I don't believe that the ECM drives the brake light).

I tried bleeding the front brakes, and the bleeder on the RIGHT side (NOT the one that locks-up) doesn't seem to have hardly ANY pressure on bleed compared to the left side (which DOES lock-up)

Low pressure at the bleeder valve? Could there be a kink in the line? I am not familiar with the brake circuit on these vans, but the old VW's would cross them (i.e. left-front and right-rear on one brake circuit, right-front and left-rear on the other circuit). If that's the case here (again, I don't know, but somebody out there ought to know) then it could be a bad brake circuit (e.g. half of the master cylinder not working).

I had this exact problem. The rubber brake hose to the caliper was partially blocked. It looked fine from outside, but when I disconnected it and tried to blow air through it from a compressor, only a little pressure actually got through. I changed the hoses on both sides, and it works great. I hope this helps.
