My electric fan does not turn on as engine heats up or a/c switched on. The fan itself works (I hot wired to the batt momentarily to test). I followed the wiring over to the driver side fender and then it goes in to a big cluster of wiring. Is there a fuse or junction that is a likely problem here?


Also. If I were to just hardwire a switch to the dash for manual control what fuse rating should I use to protect the circuit?

Now on to the question at hand.
Depends on the year/ motor, In My 97' the fan is wired to a temp sensor. It only switches on when the sensor reaches a predetermined level ( like 200 or 210) or when you are sitting at a stop light. It's probably a bad sensor. Just a plug and play type device, Very D.I.Y.. As far as wiring it to a switch, I did the same thing in mine ( for water fording ) and I started with a 15 amp. It probably could be less but I'd hate for it to blow on the trail. The only problem I have is that I would forget to turn it on at traffic lights and the temp would soar! I ended up wiring it inline with the sensor. I can shut it off if it runs on its own while I'm bumping around the woods, but it's still controlled by the sensor during normal driving.

some have a fusable link from the starter relay and leading to the electric fan relay. It could be either the temp sensor , relay, fuse link, depending on the year and engine.....
