driver door speaker noise on 2002 Windstar

Over a day or two, I noticed an extremely annoying buzz/popping noise coming out of the drivers door and speaker. It seems to happen when I hit a bump especially. I take it a wire is touching the speaker wires or speaker itself. Anybody have any easy fixes for this.. I'd really hate to have to pull the door panel out.

It's a shame Ford located speakers in the side doors.

Your problem is most likely with the plunger button contacts at the front edge of the sliding doors. Cleaning and lubrication (Vasoline) ... the plungers as well as the metal tips ... and the flat targets on the door pillar ... will usually help the situation.

The sound is definitely coming out of the front driver's door speaker.. would the problem apply then. It seems like if I slam the door hard it will stop it for a few minutes or until a big bump.

Sounds like a loose wire. Perhaps at the connector to the speaker or even at the head unit.

Removing the door panel is not difficult. I have removed mine in under 5 minutes. I think you have to undo the bolts under the handle and then pry it off but it has been a while.

Oops! You were quite clear about it being a front door ... I misread.

I agree with DRW.

I replaced my speakers in my '96 windstar just a couple of weeks ago. I took pictures...but need to upload them.
On the '96, removal of the interior door panel is very easy. May be very similar on the post '98 model years as well. (96-98 should be same).

You will need a philips screw driver (3 screws) and a torx driver (to remove the trox screws for the electrical connections for the electric window switches....and power door lock switches). You may be able to use a nut driver for the torx screws.....I could have for mine.

First....pull off the trim piece around the door handle.....then pull off the trim panel that has the door lock switches and window switches in it. Flip over the door switch panel and remove the torx screws that hold the electrical plugs to the switches.....and unplug the switches.

Then, pulling from the top....remove the small triangular plastic trim panel that is above the door trim panel......at the front.....covers the bold that holds the outside mirror.

Use the philips screw driver to remove the screw that is through the door trim panel.....next to the door handle....under the trim that you removed in step #1. Then remove the 2 philips screws at the bottom of the door trim panel.

Then....grab the door trim panel at the top.....pull UP....and then OUT.......from the top. You will now be holding the door panel in your hands.....and will thread the door switch wires through the opening......and you are free.

Carefully remove the thick plastic vapor barrior from the inside of the metal door frame. You will be re-installing it.

You will then be able to inspect the inner workings of the door.

Installation is the reverse of the removal. You will be linning up the "clips" at the front and rear of the inside of the door trim panel with the holes in the door frame. Don't forget to put the plastic back on....and press the inserts through the holes....as the clips need to go into those holes.

You will line up the clips with the holes....starting at the bottom of the door panel......
