Hey guys!

Im new to posting in the forums but have looked around for months. I recently bought a used 2003 malibu and i want to know if it is standard for it to have keyless entry. I didn't recieve any remotes when i bought the car but when i parked at work one day as i was walking away from the car (it was locked) i made a beeping noise and the back lights blinked like there was once keyless entry. I went to a local chevy dealership and I gave them i VIN # but they said it did not have it. I was just woundering if it was standard or not? Oh yeah....if it matters, i don't have power windows...so i have to roll them down by hand =(

Thanks for your replies!

I am pretty sure it doesn't have keyless entry standard.

There are ways of telling however.

I went through this dilemma with a member that had bought a used '98 (I also had one at the time). I realize that options packaging could have changed between '98 and '03, but my guess is that the LS version had remote keyless standard (which yours isn't) and the base Malibu probably had it packaged in a Group, that for sure would have included power windows.

The beeping and lights blinking might be some sort of electrical gremlin; hope not.

Not suggesting it is similar on Malibu, but on Blazer, there is an AU0 code on the list of factory installed options in the glovebox if you have keyless entry. My vote is the CD player first if you don't already have one... keyless entry is nice, but you only use it getting getting in or getting out... you need music for the whole ride.

Hey thanks for the suggestion! I will check that out. I know the manual says it has keyless entry but i dont know if they only make one manual for all 2003 malibus or for the packaged ones or whatever. I got my girlfriend keyless entry on her malibu for her birthday and I LOVE IT! I want to get one for mine. I do have a cd player already but i want an aftermarket cd player that will play MP3 disks. I agree you ALWAYS need music!

Found a link that confirmed RPO codes for GM vehicles... http://www.montecarloss.com/SSThunder/gmcodes.html. According to this page, AU0 should be the code for keyless on your car too.

Not sure on a Malibu... mine are on a sticker in the glovebox. I'd check there and maybe inside all the door jambs.

Here are a couple more options. The FOB receiver on my 1999 is located inside the trunk in between the speakers on top of the rail. It's a small black box about 5" long. If you find that then you know you have keyless entry.
The dealer can probably tell by entering the VIN number in their system.

are you sure it's not just the time delay locking feature which is standard in malibu.
this is programmable and explains in the manuals
mines a 2001 model, not sure if same as yours
hope it might help

if you press the lock button on the door just once the car will lock itself 7 seconds after the last door is closed(also there is an audible chime to this action)(also this action is programmable) providing there is no key in the ignition, also on the 7 second mark the lights will blink twice and you will hear the doors lock. however pressing the door lock twice will automatically lock your doors instantly regardless of whether there is a key in the ignition or not.(all programmable functions)
if you have no manual i can forward instructions to you.
