Driving home on a highway .... Battery light appears, then ABS light comes on ... then Air Bag light comes on ... and I'm sure other lights came on. Car started to sputter a bit ... pulled over to the side of the road .... engine began to idle real fast in park so I turned it off. Tried to start car again but all I get now is a clicking sound. Turn key 3/4 on .. radio does not come on .... no air conditioning ... nothing electrical is working. Called a tow truck who towed it to a garage after hours. When droped off ... keys out of ignition there is a clicking type sound under the dash! ..... Had to pull the battery cable off to stop the sound.

Will have the garage look at it in the morning to see what happened and what's given up the goast.

Can anyone guess ... or Zoom in on what the possibilities are???

My car just did that on sunday night. I have a 99 Cavalier z24. I just had an alternator put in march. I got my car to Kragen's, they tested the battery said that the battery was low. My car wouldnt start back up though. So it sat overnight at the parking lot for the tow truck driver the next morning. I got it to the shop, they hooked it up to the diagnosis machine which said that i had a bad battery. So they replaced the battery ($200 later), i took it around the block and the dang battery light came back on. I took it back to the shop right away because I was scared to turn it off. When I got there to the shop, they went to start it and it wouldnt start. They went round and round with the danged thing than my theft light came on. The car still wouldnt start. I talked to my teacher today and he told me that he had that same problem w/his explorer (ford) after they replaced the battery. They had to completely take out the battery, put the key in the ignition, turn the key, then put the battery back in. I guess there is some kind of alarm system on the cars for some reason. Thats why the alternator wouldnt charge the battery (because the battery was that low for some reason). I am waiting for the shop to listen to me and try to do that before i spend too much $$ on the thing.
