I have a problem, I have a '99 SHO with cam failure, and I need to know what all I would need to do to get another engine in there. My options that I have would be to potentially (depending if I can get them) a 4.6 Intech, or a 3.0 from a 3rd gen Taurus. I don't know if it's a Vulcan or a Duratec, but I can get everything I need out of the donor car for $500. I am just wondering, what all would I need to do to the SHO to get the 3.0 to work with it? And will the Intech fit, and what computer/wiring mods will I need? Thank you.

Maybe you should look into picking up a used stock engine:

the intech will bolt up and the mounts from a continental should work, but I don't know if it would clear the hood. you'd need ALOT of parts from a continental. To run a vulcan you'd need a Vulcan HD computer, very hard to find. A duratec would be fairly easy and not be too big of a downgrade.

Well, I don't think that engine would be a good idea... mileage is unlisted and it could be in the same condition mine is in, I don't know. Intec hood clearance wouldnt really be that big of a problem, I'd make it work if the engine would fit. Turns out the 3.0 is a Vulcan from a '95 2nd gen, so i dont know how much harder that would be to operate. Any info would be appreciated.... thanks.

You're asking for a lot of headaches. Unless they are in vehicles of exactly the same year and model you'll likely be better off searching the market for something else. Are you aware of the value of a used Taurus?
