My wife has a 99 RAV4 with only 19k miles but the A/C is smelling funny. it only lasts about a minute when i first turn it on then the smell goes away. it blows cold and works well except for that one thing. any ideas?

does it smell like sugar or golden syrup?

neither. it stinks like piss or sumthin. i heard that it might be mold through the a/c system. i'm going to have it checked out soon. it's still under warranty.

hahaha...yeah our is200 gets that too...smells like shit i know...
mmm...i heard when ya start the engine you gotta change the setting to get air from outside...you know press that button which shows air from outside instead of inside...

or something.....something along those lines...try that anyway...yeah under warranty...get it checked out inside of listening to me...one thing for sure...IT STINKS LIKE SHIT!!!! :p

yeah ... what you are supose to do is a few minutes before you get home.

If you leave the A/C on air condenses in the side (like a glass of water on a hot day) then you turn the car off that air is in a warm dark place so mold will grow.

If you turn of the a/c and open the vents up and push normal air though it will get rid of all the water. And the car should be cold enough from having the A/C on to not matter.
