hi all, i just purchased a 88 jeep cherokee. needless to say, i have a lot of "fixing" to do. i am no electrician or auto-mechanic, so please forgive me if i cannot use the correct technical terms (for I will be posting more on my problems).

anyways, my driver and passenger seats have electrical components to adjust the position. both seats are dead (i cannot adjust the seat through the switches). i am looking for new seats.

i was wondering if i can buy any old regular seats or do i have to get something authentic from Jeep?

i noticed that the seats were just screwed onto the floor. i took out the driver seat, and it seems the rail system is inextricably attached to the seat and electrical component. when buying a new seat, do i have to get anything additional? (i.e. rails or mounts)

i am looking to purchase a set of seats that have manual adjustment capabilities.

thanks.

I'm like you, no expert, but i'm pretty sure all u have to do is buy the seat rail and everything. i took my seats out and replaced them and there was only 4 screws holding it in...is this how yours is?

yes, my front seats are screwed in in 4 places only. in 3 places are nuts and in one place (where the seat belt hooks up), there is a scew that screws through the car.

where did you buy your seats? do you think i can walk into any car part store (i.e. autozone) and get the seats?

thanks.

Well i went cheap and got a couple from a nice car in the junk yard but i don't think u can just walk into a store like autiozone for seats, you could probably order them from there but ur best bet i think would be to get a jeep catalog and order them from there.

In addition to the junk yards (where you can find some really good deals on occasion), you may also try aftger market companies like JC Whitney or Quadratec. They will both send you free catalogs to look through.

I just bought my 88 Cherokee last week and am having a similar problem, though the only thing that will not function is moving the pasenger seat backwards. All other switches on both seats work fine still...thinking it is only a matter of time until I get to the point where you are though...lol
