How to remove the powersteering pump

I want to replace the powersteering pump i already can someone tell me how to remove it, how many bolts are atached to the pump? thanks

Well I think it would be easiest to go to your local auto parts store and get a haynes manual. It will give you a complete and detailed description with illustrations.

I have it but i can not find the bolts i just found 2 bolts and another that is almost behind of the pulley i can reach it can you tell me how many bolts do i have to take without mention those of the altertantor? tnks

I have changed the power steering pump on my '96.

You will want to remove the alternator.....makes it a lot easier....a lot less weight to manuver around.....and much easeir to put things back together.

The big wire that goes to the top of the alternator is held down with a 10mm nut. This wire is HOT at all times.....so you might want to disconnect the battery negative terminal before starting.

The alternator is held down by 3 15mm bolts.
You will need to get a power steering pump pulley removal tool. Trying to work with the pulley without the tool will damage the pump.....that includes installation of the pulley on your new pump.
You will use the tool to install the pulley onto the new pump.

The high pressure metal fluid line that connects to the pump is a pain to work with. Be careful to avoid stripping the threads.....I had trouble getting the threads to line up.

First, remove the serpentine belt....and position it out of the way so that it does not get any fluid onto it during the repair process.
You will remove the high pressure and low pressure fluid lines.
Then, remove the power steering pump pulley, using the removal tool.
Then remove the 3 15mm bolts that hold the power steering and alternator bracket to the engine.
You will then lift the bracket and pump out together.
The pump is held to the bracket with 3 15mm bolts.
Install the new pump and resevoir. I would use antiseize on the bolts...for the pump, bracket, and alternator....not for the electrical connections or fluid line connections.
You will then install the bracket and pump back into the car. Install the pulley using the tool. Connect the power steering lines. Install the alternator.
Wipe any fluid that may have gotten onto any of the pulleys. Install the serpentine belt.
Fill the power steering pump resevoir with the correct fluid......I think that you may need Mercon Transmission fluid. My '96 uses a type F transmission fluid....but they changed to the mercon....in later years. Do NOT use power steering fluid that you buy at the auto parts stores......it is not the correct stuff for the windstar.

With the new pump in place....filled to the correct level with power steering fluid......(do not overfill)...start the engine....and shut it off right away.....check the fluid level...and add if needed.
Check for any leaks.
When the fluid level is stable.....with the engine running, turn the steering wheel from stop to stop (not resting against the stops). This is to purge air from the power steering system. Shut off the engine....and recheck the fluid level. If you have to add more fluid at this point, you may need to purge air once again.
