Jeep won't start with the keyjeepdriver1980 08-20-2005, 11:57 AM Well im at a standstill not knowing what to do about my jeep, you can put the key in turn everything on but the starter wont turn over, but you can use the old screw driver on the starter trick and it starts right up, so does anybody have any ideas on what this might be ive replaced the starter relay and battery cables what else could it be? any advice would help from anyone Saudade 08-20-2005, 02:55 PM In the Start position, you should get battery voltage at the starter relay. Your handle implies a 1980 jeep but your profile says 1988. An 88 with an automatic trans has a neutral safety switch that prevents starting in gear. If manual, there's a switch on the clutch pedal that essentially does the same. If auto, try wiggling the shifter around. Also put it into neutral and try. 89ltd 08-20-2005, 08:33 PM it could be your ignition switch as well, not sending the signal to the starter relay. bayouwolf 08-21-2005, 01:40 PM it could be your ignition switch as well, not sending the signal to the starter relay. :iagree: Have you checked for voltage at the starter relay with the key in the start position? jjdavis 12-22-2005, 12:29 PM Well im at a standstill not knowing what to do about my jeep, you can put the key in turn everything on but the starter wont turn over, but you can use the old screw driver on the starter trick and it starts right up, so does anybody have any ideas on what this might be ive replaced the starter relay and battery cables what else could it be? any advice would help from anyone I have the same problem, can you tell me if you fixed yours and how? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
