How do you know its the Front Transfer Case? Also what year Jeep do you have? its a 93 jgc. a transmission shop said it was the transfer case. he also said it was welded together so you cant rebuild it and you have to buy a whole new assembly. i just wanted to know if he was blowing smoke up my ass or if it was the truth. Welcome to AF both of you.. Unless someone ran a bead of aluminum around it, hees blowin smoke...and you can just replace the vc if the rest is in ok shape. dksob81 did it not too long ago i think, and so did penguin. had some pics posted here. also one of the jeep sites has a page on replacing the vc without removeing the transfer case.......try this one....http://www.masoncomputing.com/np249/ also you can swap in a 242 in its place http://jeephorizons.com/tech/tcase.html is one and you can get a rebuilt 242 in trade for your 249 from a guy in NY. I don't have that but someone may post it or do a forum search about the swap... good luck with the repair:smile: JD dksob81 08-17-2005, 10:46 AM well i finally found out what was making the jeep hop when i would turn into a parking spot slow. does anyone know what a fair price to replace the front transfer case would be? You deffinately have a bad Viscous Coupling. Like JD said there are seme instructional pics on that first site address he provided. All you need to do to replace VC is remove the tailhousing of the Transfer Case, if there is no signs of any welds here then you will be able to repalce the VC. rwtcoburn 08-17-2005, 02:27 PM Welcome to AF both of you..
