Replacing A/C Low Pressure Switch?

I have a 1996 Windstar. My A/C is not getting cold and the clutch is cycling. I saw a post recommending that the low pressure switch be bypassed so I tried it and it worked. My manual does't say how to replace it. Can it be removed and replaced without venting the R-134?

Don't bypass the switch except as a brief test. This switch is in place to protect your compressor. What makes you think it is bad? Have you checked the refrigerant pressure? Easy to do with a $20 kit available from any of the auto parts stores.
But to answer your question: yes, the switch can be replaced with a neglible loss of R134a.

The switch is threaded onto the receiver/dryer. Unscrew, screw the new one on. Piece of cake.
