Tonight the a Hemi with dual exaust and flowmaster 40 sereis raced a v6 Tiburon GT with exaust.

First everyone was talking shit

Hemi:ill give you a car length and still beat you

Tibby: yeah ok, i dont want a car length, i just want to race

Me: Where the fuck are we going to do this?

Tibby: ive got hte place but i need some gas, but one of us will ahve to go in the on coming lane

Hemi: Thats fine ill just pull infront of you

Stop for gas

Me: 0.3mi

Hemi: Whiy not 1/4 miles

Me: 3 10ths is easier on the odometer.

We get there, i go down 3 10ths of a mile and find the first abandoned driveway.

let traffic go by, pul out in the middle and flast my head lights 3 times, then pull back on the side asap. but the road had a slight crook in it so they didnt really see it

they line up, one, two, three honks and i hear tires squealing...about 15sec later a tiburon going at least 95mph goes flying by me and then a hemi doing about the same 1-1/2 car lengths behind... (and damn did the hemi create a wind, so much air resistance, no wonder it lost.

2nd time we go down there and we pick a fence that is around 0.3mi and they line up, i pull in behind them and honk, one two three... tires squealing agian, i take of normall and then get on it, by the time i get on it they are both 2 lengths ahead of me...out of the hole the Hemi got a lil jump but the tibby pulled from there, by the time we crossed the fence im doing 75 about 4-5 car lengths behind the tibby who won y about 2 car lengths.

all in all, a good race, neither amazingly fast but both able to get over 90mph in just ove 1/4 mile.

so, yu are sayin a tib beat a hemi in the 1/4 mile on nuthin but exhaust? u should of got this on vid man. I believe u partualy, but it is such a hard story to believe. I know that those tibs can be fukin fast slightly modded (been studyin the car for years) but aginst a hemi w/ high output exhaust? EH...???

If you did beat a hemi with de i do believe that hemi was in a car that was very heavy. BUT, i could be wrong. The tiburon is a descent car, but against a rwd hemi..?

BTW, alot of people are so obsessed with trap times...trap times could mean squat.. You can get a 500hp ls1 camaro and gear the trans REALLY long and make it just break 95mph at the 1/4 doing a 12 second in 3rd gear.......OR you can gear it short and have it finish 12 seconds doing 140mph in 6th...

i wanted to but it was like a spur of the moment thing, no time to get a video camera...

Ill talk to them about it but we will have to find another place...the cops are sure to be on our ass, squealing tires and burn out marks all over the road... im sure if we had hung around much longer the police would have been out there.

and you have to remember stock, the Tib is putting down 140ish HP and weighs like 3000lbs...the Hemi is auto so 345 putting down maybe 300 and he is doing good...and the truck weighs almost 5000lbs.

plus, the Hemi's tranny isnt all that aggresive of a shifter, where as the tiby was shifting at almost 6500 RPM (that is where the power starts to drop off, he has done his research on his motor)
really the only reason the Hemi got a jump out of the hole is the tiby driver isnt the best launcher and the Hemi was power braking. and when yo uare going 80+MPH wind resistnace becomes a huge factor...

BTW the Hemi is a truck...not any POS charger or w/e

yeah, i was driving the tib....the second race i missed second gear but i recovered and still won...i was expecting the HEMI to be a little faster....but i dunno...both races i took him by about 2 car lengths...overall it was fun...i loved the look on davids face after getting beat by a POS tiburon;) haha....hes like "i thought i would beat you"

Haha, hey I didn't know you were on here man. (Project D on NT).

Anyway, yeah the Delta does come with a 5 and 6 speed transmission. It's just that is the six is more popular. Anyway yeah, it sounds like far out of reach for me to believe, and I research Tiburons all the time. Anyway, whatever. Good story reguardless.

Hemi truck (had big HEMI on side of it) pulls in front of me and I'm in the far right. Sedans go on, I slow up to maybe 75, I pull up next to the Hemi doing about 80-85, he looks at me like a badass and floors it, basically goes nowhere and wastes gas, and I blow by him and the other cars at 100-105 in no time... Honda CRX Si about 125 hp with mods in 2000lb car... Weight makes a difference...

sounds to me like the race went down as expected. Sure the HEMI is a great and powerful engine but put it in a big truck that is most likely geared for towing anyway and you don't have much of a race winner. They have great low end torque but the outcome was as expected wasn't it?

My friend has a 5.7 hemi truck and he stayed with me through about 1st and part of 2nd but as soon as I neared the end of 2nd I started putting trucklengths on him.

it still looks like something i shat out after eating my grandma's good home cooking...

i expected the hemi to win untill about half way when the tibby would start creaping back up due to the air resistnace and wieght difference... 4800lbs + Full tank of gas + the air resistance of a truck = hell past 60mph...but the tibby was ahead pretty much the whole way, except for right off the line. i didnt even notice the tibby missed 2nd gear.

weight doesnt matter so much at high speeds. i thought u had like a b16 or b18 swap.. i dunno how much 125 hp does against 345hp even if he weighs 2 and a half times more than u.

4800lb TRUCK...the faster you go the more energy it takes to accelerate a given mass, on top of this we are on earth, earth has an atmosphere, therefor the faster you go the more power ot takes to brake the wind.

Trucks have a big lumpy cab high off the ground and then a drop off which creats a nice vacume...a lot of air resistnace at high speed.

Tiburon, on the other hand, has a nice low profile and may have 6" of ground clearance, on top of a nice smooth shape that slices though the air like an areofoil.

I was standing at the finish line, the Tiburon created a nice wind going buy me at about a buck 5 and the Hemi was like standing in a hurricane doing about 100...

and like i said...he is luckey if he is putting 300hp to the ground...and you have to remember the rams have 20's and the tires arent all that low profile... Tiburon has 17's (i think) and low profileish tires, a lot less rotating mass there.

still, i expected the ram to pull ahead off the line...it got a jump then the tibby crept all up and past it quite quickly, a surprise to me. i didnt know who was gonna win but the way the race played out was a huge surprise.

However i dont know what the final drive ratio is on the Ram and it may not be that low.

either way we are thinking about a race this comming monday on film

Uhhh, I don't think so. There is no way you are going to get 10 HP from a catback especially on a little V6. Perhaps you could get those numbers to the wheels if you replaced the exhaust from the headers back and considering that you were going from crushed bends to mandrel bends with a slightly larger diameter pipe with a straight through muffler.

Also, when are people going to learn that Flowmasters are barely better than stock mufflers? They are only good for sound. They are a rat's maze of back pressure. I'll bet that Hemi was getting an extra 5 HP at most from that crap muffler. :disappoint

I'm up for it :biggrin: Altho, I have no idea where slowprocess lives LOL If I ever get back to Norfolk for work, there's a KB Lightning down there that I'm looking to get a rematch with (I beat him twice, but his truck was running like crap, launched a couple plugs, so I don't really consider that a kill). I would love to line up with the dirty dakota. I've pilled up to the 150 shot for the Thunder Shootout in Belle Rose, LA in November. I'm currently living in the great state of MS. :shakehead

BTW.....if anyone is intersted in seeing some low 10/high 11 sec late model street trucks, just head on down to No Problems Raceway on November 5-6. It's going to be nasty. I've set my goal at a 11.3, and hopefully all my calculations are correct. I've been putting serious money into suspension/tire combo mods to get my 60 ft times more respectable. It's just too damn hot here to get any good track times right now.

im afraid you all dont know much about the tiburons, they are ran pig rich from the factory...its amazing they put down the numbers they do (11:1 at the leanest if you are luckey). Just a cat back exaust will lean them out enough to get an extra 10hp at the crank...to the wheels, eh maybe 8-9hp....i didnt beleive it untill i did some reading. its also amazing that htey will make 312 or w/e whp from 9psi off of a SUPERCHARGER... i called BS allthe way untill i saw real dynocharts and coutless sources saying it is true...and no on respectible calling BS

yeah bro.....tibs are super restricted from the factory....with just a cold air intake you can expect 13-15 whp..and with exhaust you usually pick up about 8-10 whp up top with catback...you will also gain a considerable amount of torque in the top end.

My car gains 10whp peak with only the TPR exhaust. But it's everything under the peak that counts :). 32whp and 27wtq at 6300rpms

ya, basically if hyundia knew how to tune cars EMS better and opened the stock exaust up a bit they could easily claim 190bhp without anyone calling BS... which is more respectible from a 2.7l v6 with a GT badge on it than 160...
