I just purchased a 2005 Malibu with a 2.2 L Ecotech engine and I am not sure where the oil drain plug and filter are located. Any help.

The oil drain plug in on the rear passenger side of the oil pan. The filter is on the front of the block, just to the right of the intake manifold (as you look at the engine) beneath a 2 to 2.5 inch diameter black plastic plug.

Thanks for the info.

FYI- The filter is not the typical filter. It is actually a filter insert. Probably, best to buy one to know what it actually is. To get at the filter insert, I use a 1 1/4 in. 6 point socket to remove the plastice cap on the top of it. Standing at the front of the car to the drivers side you will look down on it. I purchased the socket at Sears for about $5.50. I also got a 1/2" to 3/8" adapter so I could use my 3/8" ratchet set. It comes out easily. Just remember to insert the new filter cartridge the same way it came out. It is actually easier for me to change it because you don't have to get under the car. I think Snap On makes a socket just for this purpose, but you will pay for it. Be careful not to over tighten when screwing the black plastic cap back on. Good Luck.
