91 Escort - Radiator Fan't won't runldtaylortx 08-14-2005, 10:39 PM Hey all: Daughter's 91 Escort Pony - can't get the cooling fan on the radiator to run. Haynes book shows 3 diag steps: 1) Check fuse - put meter on the fuse - closed........ 2) Check coolant Temp sensor - well, it's not in spec in terms of resistance, but neither is a brand new one. Book says 74 ohms cold, and 9.7 ohms hot. When I put a meter on the sensor while the car is running , from cold it starts in the 90+ ohms, and goes down into the twenties. That should be it right? well, problem is a new temp sensor from AZ has the same cold reading as the one in the car. 3) disconnect fan and put voltage to it - did that - fan runs just fine. Also replaced relay in the fuse box area for the cooling fan. So is it really the coolant temp sensor, or should I be looking somewhere else? This time of year in Texas it sorta gets warm........ Thx.......... AzTumbleweed 08-15-2005, 10:17 AM There's a set of relays under the air cleaner box. Could be one of those. I assume you have A/C? If not then there may only be one relay. If you have the two relays then try swapping them and see what happens. W/AC these relays are for HI SPEED/LO SPEED fan operation. daleb9 08-16-2005, 08:08 AM On my '93 1.9, one relay has five pins, the other has six. Don't know if I remember it right, but I think some guy in Hawaii had to get the sensor from Ford, hundred bucks or more, but then it ran OK. Hard to tell if if worked two weeks after he said it was OK. I'd make sure the fan runs constantly by jumping it while you consider your alternatives. Got a couple thousand miles on mine since jumping the fan at the relays. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
