There is a humming noise coming from the front ( i think). I've read alot of the threads on this and the blazer forum.

My noise starts at slow speeds approx 25mph and gets worse as you go faster. At higher speeds not as noisey. Tried turning left and right noise doesn't stop, seems to change pitch a little. Replaced tires because the ones i had on were not the best. Noise still there. Jacked car up and moved wheel left & right and top to bottom. couldn't tell if there was any play in the bearings.

1. How do you tell if this is a bearing problem?
2. How do you tell which bearing or should i replace both?
3. can the bearing be repacked with grease?
4. I've read the chilton manual doesn't seem to be hard to change bearings,?? any tips
5. If noise doesn't go away when turning does this indicate both bearing may be bad?

thanks
george

need to know 2wd or 4wd. if 4wd need to replace the front hub assembilies. i had to replace mine on my 99 envoy. not to hard though, should be able to do it if your some what handy. but take my word for it. if you do one do both the other is short to follow. chiltons doesn't tell you how to do it. go to library and look at the mithell repair books and make some copies. you "do not" have to remove stering knuckle.

as you can see this is a normal problem.....wheel bearings are not one of GM's best parts.... do not use the cheepest one to replace it they are a come back nightmare...

Just replaced the front left wheel bearing at 75k miles, make sure you use Gm parts, otherwise like he said, you will be right back where you started.
