Remove alternator from 96 monteskcromes 08-11-2005, 01:43 PM Can someone tell me is there just the one bolt to you have to take off to remove the alternator. I'm guessing that is what is wrong with my car as we already took the battery in to be tested and it was fine. Just need to know how to remove the alternator to take in to be checked. Please help! fist 08-14-2005, 08:26 AM Depends on LS or Z34? The LS (3100sfi aka L82)has the alternator on the rear passanger side of the car! To take this off there are braces that support it to the engine. Alone with two more, one being on the top (should be visable) and one on the bottom. Then there is a four prong harness and a 13mm nut holding the red charge wire (under the rubber boot). Then wiggle back and forth while pulling up and it should slide up! Now for the Z34 (3.4 DOHC aka LQ1) you have to access from the bottom, rear passanger side of the car! This is a bit more hard to pull, being under the vehicle. But like above just disconnect charge wire and wire harness. Then unbolt visable bolts wiggle off! Just some side questions, Do you hear a whine from the front end? Like a high pitched squeel. What are the problems that lead to think the alternator? Good luck vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
