Need a new transmission

So my transmission is shot and I need some help make the decision of what to do next.
I have a 93 3.0L V6 automatic. I don't know the actual transmission number or whatever it is, maybe someone could tell me.
As far as I can tell, I have 3 options:
1) A rebuild for the current one.
2) Buy a rebuild one from a salvage yard and swap.
3) Get a new one from toyota. (not likely as I hear it's very expensive)

Experiences and Recomendations?

p.s. Not doing any of the work myself, but have a trusty machanic.

Best way is to rebuild yours.
Salvage yard would just mean used, not rebuilt (at least around here)

I blew my tranny, but it was unusable...The best I can tell you is to get the dealership to find you tranny on a totaled runner, that didn't have any transmission probs. Go through someone that is reliable, and that you trust though. There won't be a warranty, but mine has been working fine for thousands of miles. Good luck

I wouldnt recommend going to a yard to get a tranny cause u never know what your gonna get, it could be fine or it could blow again. Rebiulding your tranny is questionable cause we dont even rebiuld them at are dealer so finding a kit might be tough, but if u do find a kit the best advise i can give u is take your trans pan off first and see what is around the magnet. if u see a lot of bronse pieces or clutch disc lining then u can probably rebiuld it, but if u find metal pieces ( silver in color) start looking for a rebiult one cause a transmission cost more apart then together. Your not gonna want to buy planetary gear sets or clutch hubs or oneway clutches cause that could be a few grand right there. Your best bet would be to find a reputable transmission rebiulding company that sells them for your car. toyota isnt the only rebiulder of there transmissions. You can expect to pay a lot less than the toyota trans, but probably more than you want to anyways. All depends on how long u want to keep your car for. Hope this helps.

PS the more money a kit costs, the more complete it is. many times they leave parts out or use other materials.
