Evap (P0440) question.....

After a carefull inspection of hoses, etc., my early conclusion is that I have a minor leak, that only shows when the tank is low. (probably just needs a new cap)

My question is..."Is this something I can blow off as a minor problem?"

Is this system only an enviornmental issue? Or will it affect my rig in other ways?

how do you know that the leak is only present when the tank is low.

As I said this is my "early conclusion". The tank was low at the time, and I read a post on a similar thread about the same thing happening.

I erased the code and it hasn't reapeared yet. If it does appear again when the tank is low....well we'll see.

Since it didn't apear again right away, my "early conclusion" also is that it isn't a major leak in the system.

Back to the core issue, my question still is " Is a small leak in the evap system only an environmental issue??? Or will it affect the way my engine runs with all the sensors and computer run systems involved????

the reason for this is the ecm run this test when the feual level is half tank and under there are other condition that has to be met also but dont need to get in to all details the sys has a leak most common i found is the sending unit seal but it could be vent valve purge valve so you nee evap tester and scantool to test it.
