low oil pressure in 1992 240sx with ka
carbillegal 08-09-2005, 07:08 PM my brother has a dual cam ka that seems to be losing oil pressure at idle. i heard from so of the techs at my job who claim to have worked for nissan at one point in time that there is a defective seal that cause a sort of internal leaking of the pressure. if any one has some details about this problem that be much appriciated. Thanks D-Bo 08-10-2005, 11:05 AM well, this leak could be anywhere. check if its burning oil, check if there's oil dripping, it could be the oil pump or filter.. could be lots of things.. list some more symptoms.. if anything, it sounds like the pump isn't getting enough voltage.. so check connections too (i'm not sure where exactly is but you could call your local dealership and they'll tell you) driftking777 08-10-2005, 09:47 PM and i know this sounds dumb...but if your running low on oil...you'll also run a low pressure...sounds stupid...but i have run across that problem with people before nissanfanatic 08-11-2005, 01:34 AM Actually when you start running low oil pressure, htta means you are way low on oil. The sump is going in and out of hte oil so you are getting air pockets. Oil pump doesn't require voltage. Its driven off of the crank. Have you hooked up a gauge to see oil pressure? D-Bo 08-11-2005, 11:48 AM Oil pump doesn't require voltage. Its driven off of the crank. thanks, you learn something new everyday carbillegal 08-11-2005, 07:13 PM well heres the symtoms to a T, the oil is full but the pressure is dropping to the point of non existance aka idiot light comes on. it is not smokeing and theres no oil in the coolant so there is no oil lose out side of the amount a 13 year old piston ring would allow. like i was saying i heard of a common problem with the dual cam 240sx leaking oil pressure internally i was wondering if any one had heard of this problem or are theses cars equiped with an oil pressure relief valve and if so could give me a quick scrip of the location. I'm normally a honda technition so all i do all day is turn wrenches on honda recalls and common problems i was hoping some one could make this easy for me find. Thanks so far guys. Waltz 08-21-2005, 01:22 PM oil pump works with gears driven by the crank ... over 13 years these guear get used , never heard of an internal leak on ka24de before , im not saying its impossible but very unlikely , try changing the oil pump before you open up the engine , might save you time and money Best of luck wotandsdwys 08-30-2005, 02:02 PM maybe the bearings are shot. sounds like mine, I hold almost no oil pressure on idle, but jumps up to normal levels when cruising.
