i just looked into getting anew car, i don't exactly have all that much money put together but i really like the saab 9-2 series. my question is which to go with. do i choose the turbo 2.0 aero or the na 2.5 linear... i was thinking as far as a sti would be concerned i should get the linear and find a turbo kit for that for fear that if i went with the aero it would only keep up with the wimpy subaru wrx considering its almost the same setup.

(hope i didn't upset anyone calling the wrx wimpy, i just think if it weren't for the insurance and cost differences elsewhere for upkeep the sti is the only true subaru that exsists)

one mans opinion. just thought i would see what people had to say. aero vs. linear for performance. saab vs. subaru.

look forward to the replies.

Save the $3000 and but a WRX wagon, unless the interior differences are really worth that much to you.

There are enough internal differences between the n/a 2.5 and the turbo 2.5 where it's not simply a matter of 2.5L NA engine + turbo = STi engine.

I wanted the 92-X because it was a better looking car with better options (sunroof, HID lights, leather, climate control...etc) and my wife liked it's looks much more then the WRX wagon...except for the CRAZY sticker price.
When the GM discounts hit last month I ran like a theif inthe night grabbin' a red one with the cold weather pkg and the premium pkg for $21, 440.
I could not get a loaded WRX for that.
The bad news is...everyone else had the same idea and they are all gone.
You might find the random automatic out there...but this was the only one near the way I wanted it left in the country...much less in NY.

Now that GM extended their deal again, I was hoping to be able to find a base-model 9-2X Linear with auto around here, it would only be slightly more than the 2.5 RS with the discount, but I'm not holding out hope. Plus I have heard the local dealer, only Saab guy for a good hour in any direction, is a PITA to deal with even if you bought the car from him, and an absolute nightmare if you didn't.

I read in the paper that Saab only sold about 4000 9-2X's in the first 17 months they were on the market. That can only be traced back to the fact that it's a good $4000 more than a similar Subaru. Sure, the Saab looks better (IMO) and has a better warranty plan, nobody with half a brain is going to spend $24K on an N/A Saab when they can get a turbo Subaru for a grand more.

I close on my house on the 19th, so I will look for a 9-2X anyway, because you never know.
