I got a problem with my windsheild wipers. They tend to stop when I am using them. For example, if I use the squirters and the wippers go through the whpe phase, they tend to stop on the window while doing the final whipe. It has been getting worse. If I turn them on fast speed and then turn them off, they don't always go back down to the right position. Anybody have an idea what the problem might be? I am thinking the motor may be going, but maybe it is something else. Thanks, Marc mr_stanley 08-08-2005, 08:36 PM Sounds pretty similiar to the problem I had with my Wrangler. Whenever I turned the wipers off, they would stop and not go down to the bottom like they should. The wiper motor went bad, luckily it was under warranty. amigo-2k 08-09-2005, 12:20 AM Its the chip on the alarm board that is bad. I had the same problem too and bought a whole new alarm board. I recently added new information that you can now buy just the chip, but it looks like the FAQ site is dead ..... marcre 08-25-2005, 06:32 PM Ryan, You say it is the alarm board, is this an easy fix? Looks like there is soldering involved. Is it easy to do, my soldering skills are not the best. If it makes any difference, my rear wiper works fine. The fronts just stop on the final wipe. With the rain and snow season approaching, I nrrd this fixed, soon. It has been fine ever since. Thats the only reason I am up in thee air about this. Thing with the rear was it didn't work at all. The fronts work for the most part. Marc marcre 08-26-2005, 06:21 PM I just read all the info on the FAQ's page (clicked the links too) about this problem and it leads me to believe it is the chip. It's been said before and I'll say it again, Ryan that FAQ's page you have is awesome. It helps so often. It is fun to read as well. Anyhoo, I just ordered the resistors or what ever they are and they were $1.68 each (or so). I got three, because there is a good chance I will ruin one, or two. Hopefully not three. It said they had 132 of them in stock, that must be why they are cheaper now. People may want to order them up. Time to buy a new soldering iron because the one I have is too big for the job. In the FAQ's under the intermittent wiper post, there are two part numbers (817-FTR-P1CN012N and 551-EQ1-22111S) which is the correct one for the relay for replacement in the alarm module? Well, as I stated, I am doing this now. It took forever to get the old relay out. I got a nice burn on my finger as well. So, here is the problem; my soldering skills are less than good and I may have destroyed the board trying to get the old relay out. I got the new one in and all, but I am nervous to put it back in my truck. Should I try, what will happen if I messed the board up? Will my truck explode and take out the neighborhood? Seriously, is there a fire risk and if there is, what do I do if smoke starts pouring out of my dash? It has been a long, curse filled night. I'm wondering if you could drop the whole mess off at an (old school) TV / radio repair shop, show them what you need & have them solder it!?! Just a thought. G/luck Joel Gizmo42 11-16-2005, 01:55 PM Glad someone posted this as I'm getting ready to replace my relays. I searched all over and was getting ready to buy a different brand of relays ($30 minimum order) but now I know mouser stocks the originals. For some reason they didnt show up when I was searching their site before. For removing the old relays the best way to get the old solder off is to use solder wick (can get it at radio shack). It will actually pull all the solder into it witout over heating the components or board. Works much better then a solder sucker. So, here is the problem; my soldering skills are less than good and I may have destroyed the board trying to get the old relay out. I got the new one in and all, but I am nervous to put it back in my truck. What do you mean by destroyed it? Did you over heat and burn it or did you get solder everywhere? If its a solder problem and you think you might have something shorted just get some solder wick to remove it and try again. If you burnt the board the worst case is that you might have melted the traces so you dont have contact. Anyone that knows a bit about soldering could fix it for you or solder in some small jumper wires to bypass the bad trace. Plug it in and try it. If its shorted a fuse should blow before any wiring damage happens if its a short. Or it might fry more componants on the board and you will have to replace the whole thing. If the trace is burnt open it shouldnt burn anything up but your wipers still wont work. Soldering tips: Use the right sized iron. 35 watts is plenty, 10 watts would be better. Wait for the iron to warm up fully before starting. Heat on the componant lead, not the trace pad. Only heat long enough to melt the solder. When soldering in the new part heat the lead and keep touching the solder to the lead (not the iron) until the solder melts. This will prevent "cold solder" joints. Dont put a ton of solder on at once. When the solder starts to melt onto the lead, pull it and the iron away and check. Repeat if neccessary. marcre 11-16-2005, 04:27 PM Thanks for the replies fellas. The board is not as bad looking as I made it sound. It doesn't look new, but not bad. Gizmo, all those tips are what they told me at Radio Shack, but I just don't have a steady hand. I amnaged though. The removal of the old relay was the rough part, getting the new one on was simple. Rodeo02, I was thinking of going that route for the work, but I wanted to try it. Last night after I posted I decided to put it in. I wanted to see if it worked and it did. That was worth all the cursing and burnt fingers. Nothing sweeter than success. Marc marcre 11-16-2005, 10:12 PM one thing I have noticed is the intermittent function no longer has an adjustable time on it. Whether it is set at fast or slow, it is the same.
