are camaro 3.4 engines the same as impala 3.4 engines? victimizati0n 08-08-2005, 02:20 AM
I know there both V6. The reason i ask is there is a cam in the jegs book that says for camaro 3.4L engines.. and i would like to put one in my impala.. Thanks Rally Sport 08-08-2005, 02:22 AM Yes, all 3.4 engines should be the same. It should fit. FormulaLT1 08-08-2005, 06:05 AM You have a part number for the cam you want. I will check if its for your application. CamarosRsweet94 08-08-2005, 08:25 AM Those two might be the same, but I am pretty sure there are two different GM 3.4L engines... Maybe not though I could be wrong. victimizati0n 08-08-2005, 01:05 PM thanks, the jegs book says for chevy 2.8,3.1, and 3.4L V6 engines. The part number is 270-254112 bag91 08-08-2005, 01:27 PM I would think there different engines but not 100% sure. Rally Sport 08-08-2005, 04:03 PM I wouldnt think so, I mean the 3.8/3.4 engine that is in the Monte Carlo is also in.. the Impala, Malibu, Grand Am, Grand Prix. So you bet your ass it isnt different. bag91 08-08-2005, 05:45 PM Wow I wish I was as cool as you Rally Mr. Luos 08-08-2005, 06:09 PM They are different. blindeyed 08-08-2005, 06:10 PM Depends, there are RWD 3.4's and FWD 3.4's. The FWD ones have OHC's, which makes the block and everything completely different from the RWD one. If your Impala is RWD (as I'm assuming it is), then yeah, it should fit fine. bag91 08-08-2005, 06:12 PM They are different. Finally, thank you Mr. Louis, and Blindxeyed blindeyed 08-08-2005, 06:15 PM I retract my previous statement. You have the FWD 3.4. Not sure if it's a SOHC or DOHC. But it's completely different from that in the Camaro's. FormulaLT1 08-08-2005, 07:14 PM This is a list of applications for that cam: MakeCHEVROLETEngine TypeV6Engine Size2.8L/173Liter2.8CID173Beginning Year1980Ending Year1993Engine FamilyGM V6Camshaft UsageStreet MakeCHEVROLETEngine TypeV6Engine Size3.1L/189Liter3.1CID189Beginning Year1990Ending Year1994Engine FamilyGM V6Camshaft UsageStreet MakeCHEVROLETEngine TypeV6Engine Size3.4L/207Liter3.4CID207Beginning Year1991Ending Year1994Engine FamilyGM V6Camshaft UsageStreet victimizati0n 08-08-2005, 07:42 PM Allright thanks everyone.. i guess i cant put the cam in then :( I retract my previous statement. You have the FWD 3.4. Not sure if it's a SOHC or DOHC. But it's completely different from that in the Camaro's. It is a DOHC, since it is a V6 blindeyed 08-08-2005, 08:21 PM It is a DOHC, since it is a V6 Well I wasn't sure. I've seen some 3.4's that were DOHC, and some were SOHC. Heck, some Mustangs even got SOHC and they were 4.6 V8's. Doesn't really matter if it's an I4, V6, V8, V10, etc etc. If it's an OHC setup, then it can be equipped with either or. victimizati0n 08-08-2005, 11:42 PM how can you have a V8 with a SOHC?? blindeyed 08-09-2005, 02:15 AM easily... you equip with an OHC setup. You put one cam on top of each cylinder head. Each cam then opens and closes 2 valves per cylinder. OR, each cam can open two valves per cylinder as would a DOHC. I'm not very good at explaining things, I know.
