Hey all, i am new here. Name is Greg, and i just recently bought a 1998 Malibu LS with 96k miles on it. It was running great, and i love the way the car drive, beautiful car overal. However, my alternator went out, and i knew it was the alternator because all the lights inside the car and the head lights started to dim, and then the car will stall, and have a hard time picking up, and then it eventually goes off, and only way to turn it on is by jumping it, then running it drains the battery's power. So i got a new alternator for it. However, i do not know how to replace it, and i have been doing some research on steps to replacing it.

If anyone here, can tell me how or the best way to go about replacing it without causing more damage, i would highly appreciate it. Thanks to everyone in advance, and i am glad i found this place. :)

Pretty straight forward.

1) Diconnect your battery.....make sure your radio doesn't have a code programmed on it.
2) Remove the drive belt by compressing the tensioner pulley.
3) Remove the hardware fastening the alternator
4) Remove the electrical plug and power wire.
5) Reverse order to install.

Although the belt can be placed on with one person, I always find it easier with two people. Just follow the belt routing sticker for correct installation.
