98 water leak at manifold

My 98 truck has a antifreeze smell. After looking at the forums I found it may be the intake manifold. Sure enough it is.

I haven't done much repair work on cars since before fuel injection came out. How hard will it be to put on new gaskets? I know i will have to pull the dist. to do it. What else will I find that needs to be done.

Thanks

Bill

You may run into a little trouble with the AC unit getting in the way of reseting the lower manifold (aluminum). The upper manifold (plastic/mylar) is easy to get off and back on, a 10mm deep socket, 10 mm combo wrench, and a 5/8" tubing type open end wrench for fuel supply/return runner. just remember to re-attach all the computer sensors back exactly the way they came off. replace the two lower manifold gaskets (left/right) and ultra black for the front and back. The upper manifold gasket (O-ring type). And throttle body gasket if removed. Don't forget the proper torque tighting sequence when reassembling.

Mark the distribitor before pulling it out.The timing is not adjustable.Throw away the end gaskets away and put a bead of RTV silicone in place of the end gaskets. The end gaskets split and will cause an oil leak.

Do yourself a favor & put a couple of cans of Bars Leak first. It could easily buy you a couple of years.
