Just recently had to repair the dreded intake manifold water leak.
Took my time, did the job, and now I have a miss on # 5 cylnder.
Replaced all the normal stuff, (cap, rotor, wires and plugs) to no avail.
checked to see if I had spark on #5, and I did. Thought that I must have gotten the dist. (cam pos. sensor) off a tooth. I moved it in both
directions one tooth wouldn't even run in one direction and ran very poorly in the other direction. ( i had already verified that it was #5 missing by pulling plug wires one at a time) So I supected fuel issue.
Injector clogged or the little sprayer down in the manifold. Removed manifold again and sprayed carb cleaner on them (really sprayed them down good) put it back together and.................THE SAME PROBLEM!!! Got me
Anybody have anything to offer? I sure would like some help on this one.
Thanks in advance.

Timing can only be set with a scan tool. Are you sure the timing is set?

No I'm not sure. I didn't know the timing could be changed, thought it was done by ecm. Do you use the Same scan tool used to retrive dtc's?

You might have broken the plug without knowing it, especially if they were Bosh. I broke one on mine that I heard, then after replacing it and checking the others broke another even though I was really babying them. After finding a third broken that I couldn't see untill fireing for 1000mi I replaced them all with AC.

Good idea, but no, no broken plugs, checked them.
Thanks

See this thread for how to time a vortec engine http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=350633&highlight=vortec+timing

If you moved the dist at all, you will need to adjust the timing.

Would you not think that if i turned the dist. clockwise or counterclockwise that i would have hit the spot and had no miss? I have turned it both directions the only differance that it made is full clockwise made it stall.

1996 is OBDII and I think the timing is completely computer controlled.

You should be able to get the timing close enough to get rid of the P1345 DTC without a scantool.

You need to get the engine to tdc on the compression stroke of cylinder #1(closest to the radiator on the drivers side), then remove the distributor cap and see if the rotor is pointing at a "v" shaped pointer on the edge of the distributor base with a 8 on it

since you are getting a dtc 305 most of the time this is direcktly related to the injecktor so ck craefully that you didn't pinch any wire and ck the big conn on top that conn to injecktor housing make sure the pins arent bent when you reinstall the connector.
