99 Front A/C not blowing cold

My 99 Suburban has front and rear air. The rear air is cold as ever. The front however is not. Even with them running at the same time the rear gets cold and the front is the same temp. as outside. I checked the system and the compressor is fine. I believe my problem is in the dryer. It does not get cold (normally where all the condensation comes from under the hood). The a/c line splits ( in a "Y") just before it connects to the drier and the line is very cold except for where it enters the dryer. the other side goes to the rear and is very cold as well. I am assuming there is a problem with the dryer.

have the evaporator checked. Might be bad or iced up and need to be replaced.

The dryer is shared between the front and rear, so I doubt that is your problem.

There is an orifice tube for both the front and for the rear. It is also a filter. Sounds like your front orifice tube is blocked. Although, it could also be a blocked evaporator.

You will have to evacuate the system and check the front orifice tube and/or evaporator.

Thanks guys for your input! What can clog the filters/orfice tube? Is this just the begining of the end for cold air as I know it?

Had the same problem, had it recharged and injected dye to find leak. Works excellent now...verdict on leak still out.
P.S. Was told by shop that system holds 3.5 pounds of freeon, mechanic friend told me it takes 2 pounds. He put in the 2 and it is freeqing cold now.

When you say same problem do you mean not blowing cold in the front but still frigid in the rear?

Idaho: Yes, that's what I meant. I thought it was weird, too.

Buccaneer: Thank you! I talked with a shop yesterday and they suggested that the compressor is begining to fail and has plugged the orfice tube with metal particulates? I have a friend who had a cheapy DIY A/C gauge for recharging the system. When connected to the low side at the compressor it read high with the A/C running full blast. Like 45 or 50 I think. On the back of the gauge it listed pressures with corresponding ambient temps. I was a little high. Not sure what that means though?

LOL ... mines the other way around ... the front blows cold and rear is warm. It has a brand compressor in there too, I guess I'll have the orfice tubes checked and cleaned.
