Possible Passlock Prob? 2001 Grand Am won't start

I have a 2001 Grand Am. The remote worked fine when i came into work today. I go to lunch and the remote suddenly doens't unlock the doors. I use the key and unlock them but can't start the car. It starts for like 1 second and then shuts off. I know the remote is good and the battery in it is good. Even tried the other remote. I recently had the BCM replaced so i'm kinda baffled.

From reading other posts I think it maybe that because my remote won't unlock the doors the Passlock system doesn't recognize the secuirty is disabled and therefore won't allow the car to start. Does this sound right? Is there something else I can do to get the car to start so i can at least get home tonight? Is it maybe something else? It was raining really hard when i went to lunch but I have no idea if moisture would have anything to do with this problem.

You are correct in assuming that this is a problem with the Passlock system. Search the forum on how to properly reset the sytem. It involves turning the key and leaving it on for 10 minutes and then off for a few seconds. Takes three cycles. You may have to take it back to the dealer to get the BCM reprogramed for your remote. That is the only way I know that you can bypass it at this point. Good Luck! and welcome to the forum.

If you turn ur car on but dont actually start it and there is a light on ur dash that says theft system, leave the car on for 10 minutes excatly. (it takes the system that long to verify the key) Then turn the car off and try starting it again. That happened to me about a month ago.

Okay I've tried that and it doens't work. I have also tried just disconnecting the battery for about 5 minutes and the reconnecting to see if that resets anything. No luck.

I was told to leave my key in the ON position for 20 minutes. I left it for 30 just in case, turned it to OFF, then my car started fine. I think the trick is to wait until the security light and service engine light on your dash turns off.

I've had the same problem for a little while now. Turn the key to the ON position and wait 10 minutes or until the security light stops blinking. Then turn the key off and start the car.
