Side mirrors for a 2000 Grand Am

It seems like mirrors falling off of these cars is a common thing.

I currently need a set of mirrors for a 2000 Grand Am and I just curious if other years or car models have mirrors that will fit and still look alright.

They were manual also. I suppose if I got the switch I could install that and switch to power or even just manually push the glass even though it is power. I am just short on cash at the moment and can't spend nearly $100 for two mirrors.

Anyone have a set or know of a place to get some replacements cheaper than what I've been seeing mainly on eBay or know what other mirrors will work.

TIA!

Kupop, Have you tried a salvage yard, I'm sure you would be able to pick up a set of used mirrors but you may have to remove them yourself. Some salvage yards don't charge as much if you remove the parts you need, others will remove them for you if you call in advance.

Welcome to the forum! You will find a lot of great information here from people that have been through just about everything the can be an issue on a Grand Am.

Good luck!

Hey Hoags,

I tried one lot where you go and pull the parts yourself but was unable to find a new enough Grand Am.

I called the other place assocatied with this u-pull-it lot and they wanted like $45 per mirror. Basically the crap goes to the u-pull-it lot and this other place keeps the better more demanding stuff.

This is why I was posting to see if other vehicle mirrors or years of the Grand Am will have mirrors that work. Therefore I might be able to find them in the u-pull-it lot or for sale somewhere else for cheap.

I've been lurking on the forum for a little bit now. It is a great site as it covers such a large amount of cars. I'm used to forums that are typically for one type of a car.

Kupop, if you have your old mirrors there is a cheap way to keep them on. It may look tacky but you can drill out the bolt holes on the mirror and find some stainless steal Dome Head bolts the diamiter of the holes and paint the heads to match the mirror. Put the dome on the outside and it will bolt right up inside where the old bolts attached. I have electric mirrors(99' GA) and they really screw up the paint when you loose them in the car wash, they just keep slapping around on the door,huuuh.. It sucks! But now with my jearyriggin they arent going anywhere. I beleive 99'-04 might all be the same, they may look alittle different but the triangle part that bolts to the door is very simular if not exactly the same. Good Luck :)

I think 99-04 is the same, or will work with each other but I was hoping for an older model that might be easier to come across in a junk yard.

The passenger side mirror is gone and the driver side is missing the glass.

This isn't my car. I am just trying to help a friend. I do think ~40 is a lot for a mirror like most are selling for though. Anyone want to give me $40 for a single mirror (power) for a 91-95 MR2? I have a set that came with the doors I bought. ;)

$40 for a set is a decent price...

This must be a very common problem for this model. I also had a problem with my son's 99 GA. Great Car but this has been a frustration. I glued a small piece of plastic pipe around the screw receiver holes. It formed a sleeve around the old ones and keeps them from splitting out the sides. It seems to me that they are manufactured with thin walls that need some help.

Newer Grand Am's and Grand Prix's booth loose the mirrors really easily. For power mirrors i think the dealers want 85$, I went to a body shop and got one for 65$(new). Kupop, I looked in salvage yards but like you said, such a new car is hard to find. And the cars I have seen are all missing the mirrors, thats why I just jearyrigged mine. But I still wouldn't hang on them or use them as a ladder.LOL!!
