If I un hook my EVO sensor until I can get the money to replace will it cause any problems. On a short test drive it feels good but not sure about long term.

Yes. Your steering will go out of wack. Will be very loose and if you turn slightly to the right, it will shift a hard right.
DO NOT drive without your EVO. Its dangerous.
Why do you want to unhook it? what is it doing?

It was a test to see if it drove better. It was very loose at higher speeds. I tought it was suposed to tighten up the faster you went. It seems to drive normal with out it.

I have a similar problem on my 98 Tahoe that I have been searching here for some help to figure out what is wrong.
I took a spin on some black ice and twisted the splines on my old steering gear box and it seems ever since then my steering hasn't been right! Replaced left lower and upper ball joints, outer tie rod end on left side and even the idler arm.
I had an alignment shop put in a steering box (first one was from Advance Auto) and it was horrible, really tight and wouldn't return to zero. The second box (from Napa) that I have in there now was ok for a while, but I thought that there was an awful amount of play in the wheel. I got the pitman arm replaced and had the truck re-aligned by a different shop this time and they said that my sensor on the steering column was bad. They replaced it and I really didn't notice a difference though! They said that the play in the wheel is my steering box.
Others that drive my truck have said that the power steering is really touchy and powerful. And I've noticed the play in the wheel growing, more noticable at higher speeds with wind or differences in the road. So I started looking into this EVO problem this weekend. I disconnected the sensor on the steering column and drove the truck and found out that the steering was really powerful and noticed a difference so I came back and hooked it back up. Then I found (after searching the steering box) that the power steering control valve on the back of the power steering and unhooked that, test drove the truck and found that it was really sensitive and powerful again. I thought it may be that the valve might not be closing as much as it should so I tapped into the wires, ran the two wires inside with some of that usless speaker wire they give you haha, hooked them to a voltmeter and took a test drive.
2.5 volts at idle in park
8 volts or so around 30 mph
10 volts or so around 5o mph
Does this sound right so I can eliminate a problem with the EVO, sensor on the column, etc ?
How can I test this control valve?
thanks in advance!
Jay

What's the correct name for the EVO? What's the part number? Does anyone other than the dealer carry it?

The dealer I got it from called it a rotation sensor. Just tell them where it goes and they can hook you up.

Update:
I replaced the steering box and it's not as dangerous to drive but now it's really hard to turn all the time like it's binding up somewhere. I guess it will never drive like it used to.

I have problems with a Suburban 99 2500 7.4, I bought a AGR steering box and super pump, but it´s impossible to drive, the steering wheel is to hard, the system is clean of air, I would like to know if the problem could be the EVO valve or the valve in the steering box.
Thank´s
