97 Malibu 3.1 auto Transmission noise

I just bought this car but it has a "clicking" or "ticking" noise in the tranny when you take off. It is ONLY in first gear. As soon as the tranny starts to shift from 1st to 2nd it stops and never makes a sound. Sometimes it does not do this and other times it is very noticable. Has anyone else had this problem or might know what is going on.
