is this legal? thunderbolt2000 07-26-2005, 11:29 PM
I came across these site when looking about onStar. It seems that it would be legal meaning that you paid for the GPS module and all. Has anyone tried it? Where is the GPS module in a TB? http://www.i-hacked.com/content/view/15/45/ http://www.openminds.net/onstar/ balboasdelight 07-27-2005, 09:43 AM It's legal; I don't know how useful it would be. Who wants to drive around with a laptop on the dash? LOL. . thunderbolt2000 07-27-2005, 12:26 PM I believe I read somewhere that you could use a PDA. I’m sure if you did the PDA you would have to use a different cable. I do not have the Onstar service because I think it is really useless unless you travel a lot on business, which I do not. So when I saw this I thought I could utilize the GPS module. BlulytesTB 07-27-2005, 12:34 PM Overall, yes... since GPS is released to the public, you can access the satelites for this use. Alot of work though, i would rather just spend the $129 to get the garmin one for my computer. dach95 07-27-2005, 02:19 PM Love the idea, but I already have a usb gps that I plug to my laptop for long trips. I use Delorme StreetUSA and love it over MS S&T. MS S&T is a must have though if you travel to Canada. Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
