Um when i had mine rebuilt after it went out I took it to Aimco to have it rebuilt. I cost close to 2k to it rebuilt. Of course I had to replace some of what they called the hard parts (gears, etc) if it where just a basic rebuild kit it was less. Overall I spent 3200 because not only did the tranny go, but I also had to replace the differential and the ECU on the car.

i'd say 1500 roughly? of course it depends..the motto on my 99 grand prix gt with 86k miles is when i feel my tranny starting to go, it's up for sale right away

Have the trans checked soon, cuz it may not be the trans that's having problems, it could be other things such as the computer, or other parts.... My 02 gt has had trans problem for a long while now... but yet the trans has not been replaced. I've had everything from shifting hard, to not shifting at all, to even grinding gears. So far it's been computer related, a catalytic converter, and low fluid/leak.... just some thoughts

Yeah he has a point now that i remember they ended up having to replace the computer in my car cause they rebuilt it once and it burned up again. Afterwords they found out that my computer was screwed up and that it when they had to replace it. I would definetly have it looked at soon. I wish i would've taken mine in sooner. I probably would had spent half as much as i did by procrastinating.

Took it in today and had a diagnostics run...The guy there said nothing was wrong electronic wise...But did say that the IAC wasn't working correctly...So could this be causing the ecu to read wrong and have it set for different shift points?....any idea?..Thanks guys

My 99' GA has 118000 miles, when I bought it in 2002 with 52000mls. So thats 66000 HARD mls, the first 45000 was within a year. After the first yr my trans. was acting funny, slipping due to low fluid. Then hard sifting, holding onto gears at low speeds 30-40 and not going into overdrive at those speeds. I replaced fluid and filter, a good high quallity filter and the best fluid I could find. It worked, solved most of the problems. But I have noticed it only acts Weird when its summer really hot , Ya know. So just a couple weeks ago I changed the fluid & filter and I flushed as much old fluid as I could, the fluid was burnt, nasty smelling ,redish brown, not good but just as the first time I changed it out. I through together a trans. cooler and bypassed the radiator altogether. It has worked like never before, I think it has alot to do with execive heat burning up the fluid. I was told in the winter I might have to hook it back up to the radiator. Another big thing I have is there is not a dip stick on my GA. Not big deal if you have a lift in your garrage. :)

I have heard of the IAC causing problems with the acceleration and shifting of the car. It's a good possibility that the IAC is your problem, and it's much cheaper then a trans.

What exactly is the IAC? That might be what causes mine to shift funny. But I'm sure that I manually shifting doesn't help my transmission at all.

But I'm sure that I manually shifting doesn't help my transmission at all.The IAC is the Intake Air Controller...It helps set idle speeds and all that....I'm gonna try replacing mine and see if it helps solve the problem any....cause the car pulls fine and drives great, besides the gears grabbing
