94 am When slowed quickly it takes a 6 sec. to go into gear

I have a problem when I slow down quickly. It takes few seconds to go back into drive. 94 grand am 3.1. What would be casusing this?

Get your Trans Fluid checked. If low a quick stop will push the fluid to the front of the trans and it may take a few seconds for the fluid to get back to the pick up for the pump. I would start there, let us know if the fluid level is OK.

Thanks Hoags, that was the problem the fluid was low. I had checked earlier and it seemed fine so there must be leak.
