Hello everyone, I need some help with a problem... sometimes when i start my car the engine revs up to 1500-2000 rpms even when i'm in park or tapping the brakes. I have a '99 grand am se and it has 110,000 miles. My husband changed the idle control sensor but it doesn't seem to be the problem. any ideas?? oh, this doesn't happen all the time, sometimes if I shut off the car and restart, the rpms go back to normal and then I could drive it. Please give me some advice, other than this I've had no problems. Thanks experts!!!!

welcome to the forum. My guess is your Idle Air Control motor is dirty; or your MAF could be bad. Are there any other symptoms? If your car is shifting hard / revving high, my guess would deffinatley be MAF.

Thanks so much for getting back to me so fast. can you tell me an estimated guess of how much I will be spending to fix a problem like the MAF? Thanks again, you're very helpful

no problem. If you're MAF is dirty, you may be able to clean it with some precision electronics cleaner; but if you want to buy a new one, it will be anywhere from 20 to 45 dollars, depending on where you get it. It's a very easy fix.
