My Passenger mirror was broken off at the carwash, I bought a replacement but i really dont want to pay to have it installed. It looks pretty simple with the screws (its a manual). But I don't know about the cord. Can you give me a step by step on installing this manual passenger mirror to my Grand Am.

Hello,

What a coincidence! a carwash has broken off my mirror too, sounds like you bought a electronical mirror though. so once you screww the three screws in you can just tuck the cord away, there is no use too that, then replace the foam piece and snap the plastic insert back in!

Thanx for responding. My mirror is manual but the only thing is I cant screw the mirror on the three screws that are on the car that stick out. the screws are the same that are on the mirror itself. so that means I cant screw them together because they are the same. also I know the foam part but the plastic piece I have no idea. and lastly are u sure I dont need the cord?

to make this easier can you tell me exactly how you put the mirror on explaining in detail each piece of equipment.

If you open your passenger side door, where the mirror should be (on the inside) you will see a little plastic cap.

1. Pop that cap off, underneath should be a foam piece.
2. You can take the foam piece out.
3. What should be left is 3 bolts connecting the screws to the other side to hold the mirror. take off those bolts and make sure to keep them.
4. You can then take the three old screw posts and throw them away.
5. Slide the new mirror in and tighten the bolts onto them, then replace the foam piece and pop the cap back on.

I didn't do mine myself. It looked easy though, but I didn't have the time then.

Cost me a total of $95 to have it replaced. Just don't go to GM.

Wow...the same thing happened to me...but luckily the carwash place ordered the mirror and replaced it for me...they also said that it has happened before with other grand ams...maybe we should report the problem to pontiac..HA like that would do any good!! Anyway if it was a full-service type carwash or where they take ur car and put it in one of those automated assembly line type of carwashes--then they should have replaced it for u or paid to have it done like mine did.

I bolted my mirrors with dome bolts. Drilled straight though the broken mirror where the old bolts taped into. Then nutted them up inside the door where the old bolts were. Just get stainless steal bolts so they dont rust, and paint them to match the mirror. I'd lost my mirrors at the grocery store, car wash, state highway snow plows, me just leaning on them. I love GM !lol!
