96-97 owners - I need your assistanceRamblin Fever 07-25-2005, 01:41 PM on the 3.2L engine. Please do me a favor and go out to your engine's - take a look at the side of the engine where the oil dipstick is. Just barely to the right - somewhat diagnal - there's a small bolt on the side of the engine with a tiny black wire connected. Can someone tell me WHAT that tiny black wire IS and what it does. For all of this time I've had that little black wire, now after having had the dipstick removed/replaced that black wire is gone. The mechanic said the unbolted end was just laying on the manifold and being melted away - so he took it off. I need to know if it's important or not. Thanks! surferfletch 07-25-2005, 08:49 PM Looks like a ground to me. It goes to a bolt on the wheel well with some kind of little connector. surferfletch 07-25-2005, 08:58 PM Just an aside... Doesn't it suck to take it somewhere to get a job done and they just don't bother to put it back the way it was? I hope that's all you find! hazegrey 07-25-2005, 09:16 PM I just looked at mine and it appears that mine isn't attached either. I am glad that you brought this question up or I wouldn't have noticed. Mine was tucked behind the a/c lines and I am sure that a mech probably did it. Now to find the correct place to bolt it. Ramblin Fever 07-25-2005, 11:08 PM Look for a metal tabby thing behind the battery tray on the wheel well, I believe this is where it connects. Ok, that's what I was thinking - ground connector. Now for the million dollar question - is it important to put a new one on? I noticed that there is the same type of wire on the opposite side of the engine towards the front. So is ONE ground ok, or should I re-do the other ground? Yeah, I get irritated having to have someone work on my truck cause I'm always leary. anthonyn 07-25-2005, 11:35 PM Look for a metal tabby thing behind the battery tray on the wheel well, I believe this is where it connects.
