98 GS S/C perf.shift and trac controlGSSC 07-24-2005, 02:09 PM I feel the difference when using the perf.shift button in the shifts coming quicker, but I have found that the engine seems more torquey when I don't use the perf. shift button especially on 4-3 downshifts. It feels that I gain more ground faster w/out using the P/S. I haven't tried it on off the line from a stop, this is just when I'm doing 35-40 and punching it using both methods. Do you guys leave your trac control off during dry driving, and if so, what is the difference? The trac control is just for anti-slip for braking right, or is it more? Seems more of a novelty this button by the cupholders, as I had trac control on my 95 Olds Cutlass 3.4 and had no button to manually disable it. The purpose of traction control is to limit front wheelspin in slippery road conditions such as rain, snow and ice, etc. The LOW TRAC light will come on when the system is active. I leave my traction control off but it really doesn't matter if you leave it on. Its a matter of personal preference. However, it has come in handy for me up in the mountains when its snowing. The Regal GS has the full-range traction control system. Whereby if one of the front wheels loses traction, the system works the front brakes and may reduce engine power. The normally aspirated LS model only reduces engine power and may upshift the tranny to limit wheelspin. On performance shift I very seldom use it. You get better fuel economy with it off. Basically performance shift via the PCM computer increases transmission line pressure allowing the tranny to shift at higher speeds and it makes the shifts firmer. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
