I hate my alero, long story but I need helplmulligan 07-21-2005, 09:24 PM I am having all the same problems as everyone else. But see i think that mine is worse. In Feb. I was at my local fire dept. just goofing off till the wee hours of the morning, when I tried to leave my p.o.s. would not start, that was the first time that I had ever had any problems. I paid 50 dollars to have it towed to a dealer. The proceeded to tell me that the ignition switch needed to be replaced, so I told them to do whatever needed to be done, cost no problem, at the time. I proceeded to pay the $700.00 dealer bill just to take it home and 3 days later all of this happen agian. I managed to get the car to start after a few hours to take it back to the dealer. They ten proceeded to tell me that the holster or housing for the ignition needed to be replace, my ques. to them was why was it not already done? They told me that they did not do it because they were trying to save me money, hahahahaha. After that was fixed the car ran fine. I noticed in April that the security light was comming on and off and the last week in april the check engine light came on, but the car was running fine, until the first of June when it decided to take a crap once agian. I needed to have it towed and this time the bill was 70.00 dollars. When the tow truck driver dropped the car off at the dealer, it magicly started. They kept the car for a week and a half and could find nothing wrong with it. they ran it on the computer and evrything. They never noticed the security light on or anything. When we went to pick it up the light was on. They then kept it for 2 more days and still could not find anything wrong. We brough the car home and a week later it would not start agian, keep in mind the security light was still on. My car has been sitting in my drive for a week now because I can not afford to have it towed. Ireally need help nothing seems to be working...please help me. It disables the fuel injectors and starter system. Have you tried running the procedure at page 2-19 of the owner's manual? With key to on you wait 10 minutes and hopefully the SECURITY light will go off. Then turn off and try starting the engine. You could try another key and see if that makes a difference. Maybe the transponder or receiver modules are defective. The security functions are integrated into the BCM (Body Control Module). We have a friend with a '02 Grand Am that gave up on his security problem similar to yours especially finding out how expensive the BCM module was. He had a alarm shop put in a Passlock bypass module and put in an aftermarket security system. cficare68 07-22-2005, 08:00 AM You also need to take it somewhere else.. Sounds like the people at the dealership aren't very good at there job and are dicking you around and wasting your time. lmulligan 07-22-2005, 03:07 PM today I called another dealer and they said that think that it is the chip in the key...I am not secure with that. I dont think that that is the problem and dont want to waste the money agian. If the security light starts flashing on your dash, then passlock system has disabled your fuel or ignition. On the Grand Am, it’s a 10-minute wait then light will go out and you can try again. I was able to fix mine by spraying a thin cloth with electronics cleaner, wrapping cloth around key and inserting in ignition. Cloth came out black and security light has not come on again. (It has been several months). Have read where others have fixed theirs with a new ignition installed by dealer at a cost of $500. I chose the $5.00 can of cleaner. Appears ignitions must come with some type of lubricant that attracts dust and dirt eventually causing a buildup. If you can’t find a cloth thin enough for ignition, try spraying your key with electronics cleaner and inserting it several times. NJFrank 07-29-2005, 07:40 PM LMulligan, I'm starting to experience the same problem with my passlock. Some good advice seems to have been posted. Do a search on the forum for passlock or security light, you will see plenty of advice and topics. If next time you start having a problem, before going to the dealer (unless your under warrenty) do a search here, or on google. You will often times find a better solution.
